Italy is a quite young country, since it was totally unificated only in 1861, after 3 wars among Kingdom of Sardinia and the other states. Before unification a lot of little states existed and even for this reason when you travel in Italy you can find a lot of different regions, different cultures, different languages, different cuisines, different behaviours. This was Italy before union (1843):
