The sardinian coast is full of towers, built since the middle age to observe the arrival of pirates (bad problem that we had for centuries and centuries). We can count a system of 105 towers. From each one you can see the adjacent 2, so by fires or sounds the communications could run very fast. I took yesterday these pictures, you can see one of the smallest tower, where only 2 soldiers could be hosted.
