New world means new world thinking

We are in a new world, we need to think like citizens of a new world.

As I read an article by @binancechanged today and wrote a comment, I was struck by how the issue at hand was only part of the daunting task before us, as we move from trusted opaque systems to trustless transparent systems. We must not only change the systems, we must change our system of thinking.

When I say we must abandon our old ways.

This means we must listen, at times, to unpleasant people, and people who disagree with us because in our new world all viewpoints are worthy, and must be heard, and critically analyzed for truths we may not have discovered yet ourselves. This is the not only the essence of anti-censorship that all points of view can be heard, but it is a critical component of problem analysis; all data must be considered and included in your analysis. This is the only way to see the 360 degree view of the problem.

What does that mean? 360 degree view of the problem.

We need all the viewpoints of all to really see the whole problem.

The citizens of this world are like five blind men locked in a small room with an elephant. All trying to describe what an elephant is based on the part they can feel directly in front of them.

To truly know what an elephant is, they need the 360 degree view, the whole view.

Solutions to problems are like an elephant to five blind me.

The solutions have never been seen.
The solutions we build reflect our perspective on the problem. We know that we need to completely understand the problem to build effective solutions. Such complete understanding requires all perspectives; front, back, side, underbelly and an overhead view. These are not optional, if you want an accurate picture of the problem. They are necessary, so you can build a solution with a high probability of success.

The process of gathering prospective is uncomfortable.

Some of it will be unpleasant, they will describe the elephants butt.
Some will be scary, they will describe the elephants teeth or tusks.
Some of it will be benign and non-descript, like the side of the elephant.
But all are valid pieces of information about the entire elephant.

Hopefully you now understand how two people can look at something and have very different perceptions.

The world and it’s problems aren’t on a 2 dimensional piece of paper, that you can view it all from one angle. They are on a 3 dimensional globe, so you have to see it from all angles or points of view, to truly see it all.

When I say we must abandon our old ways of thinking.

We need to change our old ways of thinking, so we don't bring bad habits, bias and faulty logic into the new world because it's like bring trash from your old place to dirty and ruin your new place. It has no place here, and it compromises our ability to function and survive in this new place.

We also need to change our thinking, because the thinking that serves us well in a city with labelled streets and taxis, is great for getting around the city. But once we are in the forest, there are no streets, there are no taxis. We must learn new rules, those new rules must become our new mental framework for survival.

A more clear example of the thought processes we must change is our attitude towards bridges. If we look at the issue of bridges, the connections between blockchains, upon which assets flow. They are mostly trusted bridges and they are not transparent. And that is fine in the legacy banking system, because that's how it works. But in the cryptocurrency system, where transparency, trustlessness and verification are the rules which keep our money safe, our old thinking puts our crypto at risk of being stolen, and we can suffer financial ruin. If we implemented new thinking we would be less susceptible to theft and token loss because we wouldn’t put our money in places we can’t see it and can’t protect it, as in transparent block explorers and under cryptographic key protection.

This new thinking is a critical survival skill. Metaphorically speaking, we are now in Rome, and we must think and act like Romans.

Last words

We are exploreers in a new frontier. We have left the legacy system and entered the cryptographic system. As long as we focus our thinking on the new rules of trustless, tramsparent, cryptographically protected transactions our money is safe. But when we forget where we are, and revert to legacy banking system thinking, we can lose it all. Stay focused, and stay sharp my friends.
