The word of God or the Bible was written in a very long period of time, but the central theme and personality that extends throughout the Bible is the Lord Jesus Christ. In the Bible we have various descriptions and texts that speak of the person, life and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. of this in the Bible we find a very large number of prophecies that speak of Jesus and relate to virtually all aspects of life starting from the fact that many years in advance it was prophesied that the Messiah should come, that he would die on the cross which precedes the kingdom in which the Lord Jesus will reign for all eternity.
All the prophecies that have been written and refer to Jesus up to the time in which we live have been fulfilled and only those prophecies that have yet to be fulfilled in the future regarding the events that will happen in the last times remain. The description and events that follow are very detailed described in the prophetic books and also in the Revelation of John which is the last book of the Bible and in which we find detailed descriptions of prophecies related to the taking of the church.
In Genesis 3:15, Jesus is called the "seed of the woman" and this is directly related to the nation of Israel or Abraham when we find the prophecy that through his seed all the tribes on earth will be blessed and the only blessing can be through the Lord. Jesus Christ, so we see that only through Jesus will be blessed or saved people of all tribes on earth who will believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
“And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.“
Gen. 12: 3
And all this happened until Abraham had offspring and did not even believe that he would have them
"And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.”
Gen. 17: 7
but God's plans were different and it was only necessary to rely on God's promise that this would happen.
God told him:
"And, behold, the word of the LORD [came] unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.”
Gen. 15: 4
"And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness."
Gen. 15: 5-6
And since God is faithful, this happened later, but first God made a covenant with Abraham
"And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I [am] the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.”
Genesis 17: 1-2
and from the seed the nation of Israel is born, and later, when the right moment came, the Lord Jesus Christ was born
and that from the "seed" therefore the Israelite through whom people of all nations will be saved
"And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.."
Gen. 22:18
We find confirmation of this in the Gospel of Matthew, where the genealogy of Jesus Christ is written and where we can see that Jesus is a descendant of Abraham.
"The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham."
Mt 1: 1
"And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.. "
2 Sam.7: 12-13
Furthermore, we have a prophecy written in Isaiah that "someone" will prepare people for the coming of Christ
"The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.."
Isa.40: 3
We can also read about the events that happened after that in the Gospels, but many details were prophesied by the prophets many years before. In the psalm we read that He would be crucified and that His hands and feet would be pierced, although it was not practiced at that time. crucifixion as a punishment was practiced and perfected by the Romans
"For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet."
Ps.22: 16
We can read that he will be in the grave and resurrection for three days
“Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.”
Jonah 2: 1
and about the resurrection we can read:
"Now upon the first [day] of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain [others] with them.
And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down [their] faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words,. "
Luke 24: 1-8
and the ascension is also foretold many years in advance
"Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, [for] the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell [among them]."
Ps.68: 18
But apart from this, that Jesus will be a descendant of Abraham, it is also prophesied that he will be from the royal tribe (the tribe of Judah), because we find a record where the prophet Nathan conveys information to David that Jesus will be raised from his lineage.
"And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever."
2 Sam.7: 12-13
And that he will be from the tribe of Judah, we read from Genesis where it says that Jacob blessed his sons and when Judas came to his turn he said:
"The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him [shall] the gathering of the people [be].
Genesis 49:10
and the prophet Micah gives an even more complete picture because he prophesies the tribe but also the place where Jesus will be born
"But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, [though] thou be little among the thousands of Judah, [yet] out of thee shall he come forth unto me [that is] to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth [have been] from of old, from everlasting
Micah 5: 2
Further in Isaiah we can read what the name of the Savior will be, who will come many years later, but also that he will be born of a girl, which means that he will be conceived in a specific way in order to fulfill the condition "a girl will conceive".
“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.. "
Isa.7: 14
The fulfillment of the prophecy is the first chapter in Matthew, where we have a description of how Jesus was conceived, and the birth of Jesus is written in the second chapter of the Gospel of Matthew.
"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 1:18
And very many years before this we find the first prophecy about the first coming of Christ written in the book of Genesis where God tells the serpent-fallen Lucifer about 4000 years earlier that he will be born of "the seed of a woman" and that he will stand "on the serpent's head". .that the enemy, Satan, will be involved in the whole story. who will eventually be defeated.
" And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."
Genesis 3:15
And the fulfillment of this is found written in the text
" But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Gal.4: 4
Confirmation of the fulfillment of the prophetic words of the prophet Micah is found in the Gospel of Matthew, where he writes exactly what the prophet prophesied a long time ago.
" Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Matthew.2: 1
Over 700 years before the birth of Jesus, the prophet Isaiah wrote where Jesus would begin his work
" Nevertheless the dimness [shall] not [be] such as [was] in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict [her by] the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. "
Isa.9: 1-2
The fulfillment of this is written in Matthew where it is written
" From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Matthew 4:17
" And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
Matthew 4:23
About 1000 years earlier it was written that Jesus would give speeches through stories and this information is given to us by the psalmist in Psalm 78
"I will open my mouth in a parable“
"I open my mouth for a story"
Ps.78: 2
and the fulfillment of this can be read in the Gospel of Matthew where Matthew says:
" All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.”
Mt.13: 34-35
And the record of that is in the Gospel of Matthew where we see that "someone" is John the Baptist and we know that now but Isaiah couldn't know that he just wrote what God revealed to him
" In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.”
Matthew 3: 1-3
The prophet Isaiah also says that the Spirit of God will be on Jesus and that he will be there to announce the good news to his people.
,,The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek;”
Isa.61: 1
and then the good news will be preached to other nations. Jesus tells his disciples about this topic
" And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:."
Matthew 28: 19-20
And when Jesus came to John the Baptist in the Jordan
"Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized."
Matthew 3:13
“And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:”
Matthew 3:16
And now Jesus will say exactly what the prophet Isaiah wrote in his prophecy
“The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, "
Luke 4:18
In Psalm 69 we find that the brothers by mother will not receive him and will not believe him
"I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children."
Ps.69: 8
and we have the fulfillment of this in the Gospel of John
"
,,For neither did his brethren believe in him.."
John 7: 5
In addition to the brothers of Jesus, the disciples will also leave when trouble comes, as the prophet Zechariah wrote to us in advance.
" Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man [that is] my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.."
Zechariah 13: 7
And that this prophecy is also true, we read in the Gospel of Matthew
" But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.”
Matthew.26: 56
Apart from the fact that his brothers did not believe him and that his disciples left him, we read that he was not very popular among people, but people despised him and simply did not pay much attention to him. Jesus simply did not fit into their social system. waited for him to come from Abraham and when he came they did not recognize him but despised Him and it can be said they turned their heads to the other side of Him
" He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Isa.53: 3
The prophecy speaks about what the traitor of Jesus will say and for how much it will be sold, and we get that information from the prophet Zechariah
" And I said unto them, If ye think good, give [me] my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty [pieces] of silver. "
Zechariah 11:12
and the fulfillment of this we have in Matthew 26 chapters
,,And said [unto them], What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.”
Matthew 26:15
Also in Psalm 41 we read that his man, someone who lived and cooperated with Him, would turn against Him (hence one of the apostles because they were His closest associates).
"Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up [his] heel against me."
Ps.41: 9
And we find a record of Jesus' words in several places that hint at what the Gospel writers will describe later, which refers to the betrayal of the Lord Jesus by Judas.
" And he answered and said, He that dippeth [his] hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.."
Mt.26: 23
,,I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.”
John 13:18
" But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me [is] with me on the table."
Luke 22:21
We have records of betrayal in all the Gospels and we can read figs.
,,Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,. And said [unto them], What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him. "
Matthew 26: 14-16
" And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
Mark 14:10
" Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.”
Luke 22: 3-4
" And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's [son], to betray him;,"
John 13: 2
The fulfillment is in
,,And they crucified him, ..”
Mt.27: 35
,,And when they had crucified him”
Mark 15:24
,,And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.”
Luke 23:33
" Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus,..."
John 19:23
And that his arms and legs were pierced, we conclude from the text where Thomas does not believe that other disciples tell him about Jesus, but wants to be convinced by seeing the wounds he received on the cross.
" The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
John 20:25
The prophet Isaiah prophesies that Jesus will be on the cross among the wicked and that he prayed for them
" Therefore will I divide him [a portion] with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”
Isa.53: 12
However, although it was customary to break bones on the cross, this did not happen because it was prophesied in advance
"He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken."
Ps.34: 20
it really happened and we have a report in the Gospel of John
" Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.” John 19:32
We further read that he will be left on the cross even by God the Father
"My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? [why art thou so] far from helping me, [and from] the words of my roaring?"
Ps.22: 1
And the fulfillment of this we find in Matthew
“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? "
Mt.27: 46
Not only is the crucifixion foretold, but we also have a record of how the soldiers and the assembled crowd behaved while the Lord Jesus was on the cross.
"I may tell all my bones: they look [and] stare upon me.They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.”
Ps.22: 17-18
And thus left by all, the Lord Jesus on the cross serves as a "thing" to see and attract to the Roman soldiers who wanted to show their strength, supremacy and arrogance because they have fun and gamble at the expense of the righteous who are on the cross. this event
.. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided [him], saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.”
Luke 23: 34-35
After the terrible death on the cross, Jesus was buried in the tomb of the rich man, even though he was crucified among the criminals.
" And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither [was any] deceit in his mouth.."
Isa.53: 9
This event is described in Matthew
" When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
Mt.27: 57-60
In addition to these prophecies, the resurrection was foretold in advance
,,Thy dead [men] shall live, [together with] my dead body shall they arise. “
"
Isa.26: 19
"For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption."
Ps.16: 10
"As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness."
Ps.17: 15
and from the text of the prophet Jonah it can be concluded that the resurrection will be after 3 days
Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly, And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, [and] thou heardest my voice. For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. The waters compassed me about, [even] to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars [was] about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God. When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay [that] that I have vowed. Salvation [is] of the Lord. And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry [land].
Jonah 2: 1-11
" In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first [day] of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead [men]. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. "
Matthew 28: 1-6
We can read about the ascension
"Thou hast ascended on high “
Ps.68: 18
" So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
Mark 16:19
" And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
Luke 24:51
and finally, let us mention the prophecy which says that even the Gentiles will turn to the Savior and the Holy Spirit will be poured out on them, which means that salvation is not only for the Jews but for all those who will believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
" And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.."
Isa.11: 10
" And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 10:45
" Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God, That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost. "
Rom.15: 15-16
And this is only one part of the fulfilled prophecies, and there are other prophecies that have not been fulfilled yet because the time has not yet come, but there is no doubt that it will also be fulfilled in the future.
