Good afternoon, Bheng here again, with my article again, lol, we, the Filipinos have so much tradition, beliefs n even superstition that sometimes r true n some's not, but in order to avoid or prevent some bad luck or bad things that might happen to us or to our family members, we tend to follow, obey n do it for our safety n that of our family members n ala nman mawawala kng susubukan or gagawin ntin un, dba, lol, right now, i'm having my cup of coffee while doing this one, lol, kape po tau :)

Philippines has so many traditions, beliefs n superstition because we experienced n has long history of colonization that has strong influence in us when it comes to culture n traditions n also influence us not just by their language but to the food n superstitions that we, Filipinos take to heart n some of that came from Hindu-Buddhist influence n also from Christianity n we, from the Philippines or Filipinos claims ownership of a very interesting n diverse mix of beliefs n below's the most common n known to us or familiar one:

  • Don't cut your nails or finger nails at night or midnight as it might cause u bad luck or bad things, before, i used to do that because that's the only time i got or it's just my free time to do it as i'm sleeping most of the day 'coz i'm on night shift when i'm still working before n me n my mom always argued with it, lol.

  • The number of steps of staircases at home shouldn't be divisible by three or the so called Oro(Gold), Plata(Silver), Mata(Death), the first two words, Oro n Plata denotes good fortune or luck while the last one, Mata denotes bad fortune or luck.

  • Turn your plate when someone leaves in the middle of a meal, by doing that means ensuring the safe travels for the person leaving that time.

  • The table should not be cleaned or cleared when someone's still eating as she or he will live a lonely life or be alone for the rest of his or her life.

  • Don't go straight home after attending a wake or the so called Pagpag, so the deceased's spirit won't follow u.

  • The family of the deceased should not drop off visitors at the door upon saying goodbye as it symbolizes or means dropping them off at their own deaths.

  • Serving food at wakes should be either be a heavy meal or a light snacks

  • Reassure your host that you're human or used the word Tao po when knocking at the door of the neighbor or a relative or friend's house especially at night time.

  • Siblings should not marry within the same year or the so called Sukob as it is said to divide the luck between the two marriages.

  • Another type of Sukob in wedding or getting married's the death of an immediate family member as it is considered as a bad luck.

  • The bride should never try on her wedding dress before the big day as it brings bad luck n might be the cause of cancellation of the union.

  • Serve pancit or pansit(noodles) at celebrations especially birthdays as it represents or means healthy n long life.

  • Respect the elementals or say Tabi-tabi po to avoid or prevent getting ill or sick when u happen to pass by or went to anthills or balete trees.

  • Be careful when showing fondness over babies or say pwera usog to avoid the baby from getting sick or ill or discomfort.

  • Blame your missing things on elves or duwendes as it might hide or keep it n just brings it back in a few minutes or the next day as sometimes duwendes a playful one.

It's me, Bheng again, saying, there's nothing wrong if we still believes in the superstitions or beliefs that our lolos or lolas told us or even our parents as there's no harm if we do follow it n just finished drinking my coffee right now, lol, hope u had a good day today n good evening to all n God bless us all n me, had a long day today n now, will washed the dishes, lol, as i was busy this morning 'coz i became a chef n cooked our food n now, i'll be a dishwasher, lol, brb soon :)
