 Chapter 20

“There are goblins to the right!” A male adventurer shouted to the other adventurers as he stabbed a goblin in the chest.

Urk! Ghrok!

Blood flows as the male adventurer forcefully pull out his sword from the dying goblin. He then went to chase other goblins that were trying to escape.

Twang!

“Don’t let any of them escape!” A female adventurer with pointed ears reminded the others as she shoot a fleeing goblin.

Similar scenes could be seen anywhere; goblins trying to escape while the adventurers pursued.

It’s been several minutes since the surviving goblins crawled out of the collapsed tunnels. When they thought that they were finally safe, they were shocked to find out that dozens of adventurers and soldiers were waiting to ambush them.

After that, everything turned chaotic as the surviving goblins were slain without mercy. Soon, countless lifeless bodies of goblins littered the ground. The number of goblins killed was so many that their green blood creates large puddles on the now muddy ground.

Despite this though, wounded goblins still keep crawling out of the collapsed tunnels.

Even though majority of the goblins were killed when the whole underground tunnel system collapses, cockroach-like goblins still managed to survive. Moreover, many of the evolved goblins managed to survive as well.

But considering their original number that was in the ten thousand, it was kind of expected.

For example; a goblin champion manages to crawl out of the eastern tunnel was ambushed by the adventurers and soldier lying in wait there. Sadly, goblin champions were very difficult to kill so it was able to emerge successfully from the collapsed tunnel despite suffering from serious injuries.

Currently, the goblin champion was facing against an elite team of adventurers while the other adventurers were busy killing the goblins that tries to interfere with the fight.

The goblin champion, despite being wounded and without weapons is giving the elite adventurers a difficult time. Still, if nothing unexpected happen, the goblin champion too, would fall at the hands of the adventurers.

It’s only a matter of time...

While all of this was happening, the real battle was actually somewhere else.  It was the battle between the human girl, Rennel and the enraged goblin king.

****

Roar!!!

The goblin king roars as it swung down the huge axe on its hands towards Rennel. Knowing the power behind the huge axe, Rennel didn’t try to deflect it but avoided it entirely. Due to the huge size of the goblin king (being several times large than a goblin champion), each of its strike possessed incredible strength.

Bang!

The ground shattered after being hit with the axe, showcasing how powerful that strike was. Thankfully, Rennel chooses to evade the strike instead of blocking it.

If the girl tries to match its strength with her own like what she did with the goblin champion, she would have undoubtedly lost.

With such huge difference in power, the girl could only use her overwhelming speed and agility to dodge every attack that the goblin king sends her way.

Admittedly, even that was becoming more and more difficult once the goblin king started imbuing mana to its weapon. This is one of the reasons why goblin kings were so feared in the continent. Not only were they able to command other goblins, they themselves possessed fearsome powers.

Despite originating from one of the weakest race of monster, a goblin king could match other monster kings in battle. Also, even though Rennel have experience fighting a monster king before, the fight with the goblin king was far from easy.

What’s more, the experience and knowledge he gained after fighting the monstrous wolf could not be used in her current situation. After all, the circumstances shrouding the monstrous king Black was different from that of the goblin king.

Although she was able to subdue Black back then, the victory hasn’t been easy. And despite being much stronger now compared to the time she fought Black, the Black from that time was greatly weakened after giving birth. In other words, she won against an already weakened Black!

If she actually fought the full powered Black, who knew who would have won?

That said, that battle might not even happen considering that Black held no hostilities towards humans unlike the goblin king.

“Did I grow overconfident after defeating Black?”

Seeing how difficult it was to kill the goblin king, Rennel could not help but doubt herself. Because of her previous experience battling a monster king, the girl might have unconsciously looked down on the goblin king.

"I think I finally understand why teacher want me to tackle this quest.” Rennel thought as she narrowly evades the blade of the axe that wanted to split her in half.

After avoiding the huge axe, Rennel stabbed towards the goblin king’s heart but the monster uses its left arm to prevent its heart from being stabbed.

Puchi!

The jade-green spear stabbed into the arm of the goblin king which made the monster grimace in pain. Unfortunately for the girl, the spear was stopped by the goblin king’s thick muscles and bone. Although she manages to wound the monster, it wasn’t enough to threaten its life.

Enraged that it was wounded, the goblin king brought down its huge axe towards the girl, wanting to split her in two. And despite using just its right hand for that strike, the strike still possessed considerable power.

Still, Rennel was already prepared for it and quickly evaded after pulling out her spear.

The human girl and the goblin king stared at each other. Right now, the two of them sees no one else but the person (monster) in front of them. And as for the people and goblins around them, they had completely forgotten about them.

Speaking of which, Rennel was not actually fighting alone, Guild Master Tigre along with the elite adventurers had quickly rushed over once the goblin king appeared. Not too far away from them, there’s General Souren along with the best fighters in the army.

It was thanks to these people’s presence that Rennel could concentrate fighting the goblin king.

As for the remaining goblin champions and other goblins, Guild Master Tigre, General Souren, and the others were the ones to face them. That was to say, without discussing about it, their respective opponents were already decided.

****

Amazing!

Clyde could not help but praise the mysterious hooded girl that was fighting the goblin king. Despite being a lot smaller compared to her opponent, the mysterious girl was not losing ground at all.

Just watching the mysterious girl and the goblin king duke it out, Clyde had to accept his inferiority. Although he was also facing a formidable opponent (a goblin champion), he knew for a fact that the goblin champion that he was battling along with his party was far inferior to the goblin king.

“How could a fragile-looking girl like her be so strong?”

Despite wearing a hooded cloak, Clyde and the others could tell that the girl fighting the goblin king right now was no different to a regular young girl in terms of built and frame. And yet, despite her small stature, she possessed incredible strength to the point that she’s only inferior to the giant-like goblin king in terms of strength.

“Where is she getting all that power?”

The girl’s source of power was a complete mystery to all the people (and goblins) present. The goblin king’s power was easy to see considering its tower like build and thick muscles. But then, what about the girl, Rennel?

Her arm that was holding her spear was skinny and almost devoid of muscles. And yet, her every strike breaks the wind and are powerful enough to pierce through the goblin king’s thick hides, and rubber-muscles. What’s more, her agility, speed, and reaction time were out of this world. With those stats of her, she was able to evade every attack that the goblin king throws at her.

“Clyde, focus on the enemy!”

Natalie, a young woman wearing a huge magician hat warned Clyde who was starting to lose concentration as he continues to watch the girl.

Tsk! Due to the timely warning, Clyde was able to block spiked mace with his sword. Despite that though, the powerful strike still forced the feet of the young adventurer to sink a few inches into the ground.

“I got careless!”

Clyde roared and forcefully sends the spiked mace reeling while momentarily stunning the goblin champion. He then took advantage of the fact that the goblin champion was momentarily stunned to jump backward – allowing him to regain his composure and stance.

His party members also took the opportunity to attack the goblin champion while it was momentarily stunned – inflecting several wound to it. Unfortunately, the wounds suffered by the goblin champion weren’t deep enough to fell the monster.

“What the hell, man? You almost died back there,” Darius, a mustachioed man wearing a full armor and holding a large shield and a sword chided.

“Y, yeah… Sorry about that.” Clyde replied looking rather embarrassed.

Twang! Twang! Twang!

“Enough talking and focus on the goblin champion!” Tyr, a male elf archer reminded as he released three arrows consecutively. “Mina, I need buffs!”

“Yes, on it!”

Mina, a petite adventurer wearing a cleric’s uniform casted agility, concentration, and protection buff towards the elf archer.

“Mina, please buff me too!” Clyde shouted while hacking at the goblin champion.

“O, okay!” The cleric Mina replied.

Clyde felt embarrassed for what had happened earlier, and therefore wanted to redeem himself for that close call. Moreover, he wanted to finish off the goblin champion so that they could help the others.

Since the goblin champion was already wounded, its movements had slowed down significantly. Seeing this, Clyde’s party of five pushed harder, and encircles the goblin champion. Feeling the grip of death, the goblin champion went berserk as it tries to escape the encirclement.

But would a party of elite adventurers allow their prey to escape just like that? Of course not.

The mustached man, Darius slammed his huge shield at the goblin champion thus staggering it. Almost at the same time, the female magician, Natalie shoots an ice lance towards the goblin champion’s face.

Seeing the ice lance that was aimed at its face, the goblin champion had no choice but to use the spiked mace to block the ice lance. But because of this action, the other part of the goblin champion’s body was left defenseless.

Clyde, who just received buffs from the cleric Mina, took advantage of this and stabbed his sword at the goblin champion’s belly!

Rooaaarrrr!!!!

The goblin champion roared in anger and pain, and swiped its spiked mace horizontally to blow away the warrior Clyde. But…

Puchi! Puchi! Puchi!

Three arrows fired by the elven archer Tyr penetrated the back of the head of the goblin champion – piercing its brain and thus killing it.

Bam!

The goblin champion falls lifelessly to the ground after the three consecutive head shots. To make sure that it was really dead, Clyde stabbed his sword to its back. Seeing that there’s no reaction, Clyde and his party simultaneously let out sighs of relief.

“It’s finally dead...” Darius said.

“Yeah…” Natalie agreed.

“It’s just a goblin but to think that it’s this terrifying.” Mina softly commented.

Everyone nodded in agreement at the comment. Although goblins are among the weakest of monsters, its evolved form was truly terrifying. If not for their party’s almost perfect teamwork, they might not have defeated the monster.

“It was indeed a powerful monster but compared to the goblin king…”

The elven archer Tyr turned towards the direction of the goblin king and Rennel with a complicated expression. Clyde and the others also turned towards the two combatant embroiled in a fight to the death. Just like the elven archer, they too showed complicated expressions on their faces.

“…Should we help her?” Natalie finally asked.

“That might not be a good idea.” Darius answered.

“Yeah, that person is focusing all of her attention fighting the goblin king. If we mindlessly offered our help we might just break her concentration – putting her at a disadvantage. Clyde explained with a frown on his face.

“T,then… how about I buff her with my magic?” Mina timidly suggested.

Clyde shook his head at Mina’s suggestion. “No, that might just backfire on her. She might lose her rhythm if all of her attributes suddenly increases.” He explained.

Tyr nodded his head after hearing Clyde’s explanation. Although buffs are very useful as it could temporarily increase attributes if used properly, it could also be a double edged sword. The reason for this was because one needs time to adjust in order to use the sudden increase in power.

For example; if a person that was running was given a sudden speed buff, that person might just lost his bearings and tumbles to the ground. The same goes if the person was given a strength buff. If a person’s strength suddenly increases without warning, that person might unknowingly destroy his or her body when he attacks.

Basically, the body needs time to adjust to avoid hurting one’s self from the attribute increase.

“For now, let’s just help the others fight the goblins. Once we finish off all of the goblins, we might just find the opportunity to help her.” Clyde suggested.

The remaining for adventurers nodded their heads in silence. Before aiding the others though, they take one last look of the girl.
