Chapter 16

A goblin lunges at Rennel ferociously, in response, the girl simply stab her spear (nameless) at the goblin’s throat, piercing through it with ease.

Rennel quickly pulled the spear without looking at the dying goblin and swiped it at the other goblins charging at her with clubs, small spears, and other mismatched weapons. She accurately hit the goblins’ necks which send heads flying into the air.

Uguukk! Roar!!!

Grunts of pain and roars filled with anger and hate filled the air as more goblins died with every thrust and swipe of her spear.

As if triggered by the death of their kin, the other goblins’ attacks grow more frequent and ferocious. Goblins using bows shoot a barrage of arrows at the girl without care for the lives of other goblins accidentally hit by said arrows. Goblin mages also launches their spells in an attempt to destroy the intruder daring to attack their village on her own.

But despite the ferociousness of the attacks, none of them once lands on the girl. For arrows and spells, all Rennel have to do was swipe at them with her spear to destroy the arrows and dissipate the fireballs and ice spears.

Being a magic spear with various abilities, 'nameless' have natural immunity against certain level of magic attacks.

And as for those who tried attacking her from behind, they could only hit air as Rennel moved about as if she were dancing. Her movements are so mesmerizing that anyone who looks at it could not help but be attracted.

But for the goblins though, the girl’s graceful movement was like the dance of death. Every time she moves about and strike with her spear, goblins’ lives would be lost.

Still. Rennel dare not lower her guard. Although the small goblins were not her match, she still would not underestimate them.

This is because she knew full well the repercussion of lowering her guard. If she wasn’t careful, the waves of goblins would have overwhelmed her a long time ago.

And although she wasn’t really going to die with her teacher ensuring her safety, she still could not take it easy. This was because, her teacher, Chaos warned her that it will only save her if she was on the brink of death.

And knowing her teacher’s personality, Chaos will certainly just watch her as she's beaten by goblins – only acting when there’s only a wisp of breath left in her body.

Thinking what fate awaits her if ever she was captured by the goblins, Rennel could not help but shudder. Of course her teacher would absolutely not let the goblins humiliate her but still, she could not help but feel cold every time she thinks of it.

“These goblins just keep on coming. Are they not afraid of death?”

Rennel have already killed several dozen goblins but for some reason, the waves of goblins would not stop. Thankfully the route she had chosen allow her to move freely while preventing large groups of goblins from ganging up on her at the same time.

“Good thing the adventurers and the army were also here. This greatly reduces the pressure on me… If I were to face all of the goblins myself, I’ll be easily overwhelmed by their sheer numbers.”

Thinking about the alliance which made up of adventurers and soldiers, Rennel could not help but thank them inside her heart. It was thanks to them taking most of the pressure that Rennel could still be carefree like this.

“I should stop thinking about unnecessary things and just focus on killing the goblins. This should also help reduce the pressure that those guys would have to face…”

Having thought of that, Rennel returned all of her attention to the goblins. And with her mind clear of unnecessary thoughts, her movements showed great improvements; becoming faster, smoother, and more unpredictable.

Faced with this Rennel, the goblins could only die faster…

While Rennel was killing goblins at the rear of the village, the raiding teams made up of adventurers and soldiers from the army were doing their parts. Despite being outnumbered almost 10 to 1, they were still able to kill the goblins without suffering casualties.

Being much stronger and well-trained in comparison to goblins, the vast difference in number between the goblins and the alliance has not shown much effect yet. The other reason for their advantage was due to the difference in quality of equipment.

The goblins might have larger number compared to the raiders but their numbers also made it difficult to arm them. Thanks to this leeway, the raiding teams were not disadvantaged and overwhelmed.

Still, the situation could only last for so long. Being outnumbered, the adventurers and soldiers have to fight their all without resting. Meaning, as time goes by, the adventurers and soldiers would grow tired from all of the fighting.

Once that happened, injuries and deaths would start appearing among the raiders. And it's something that could not be avoided. This was because the vast difference in number between the two opposing sides was just that big.

The number of goblins inside the village actually surprised the adventurers and the army. Yes, they knew that they would be facing thousands of goblins since the start. But the still, the great number of goblins caught them off guard.

Basically, the number of goblins inside the village was three times of their original estimate. Nonetheless, they could not give up despite facing almost ten thousand goblins.

They could not retreat in order to think of new strategies. If they retreat they would be pursued. As such they could only go with their original plan and kill as many goblins as they could before they were overwhelmed.

“This number… Could it be that this goblin village actually has a goblin king?” Guild master Tigre thought to himself as he observed the battle unfolds along with the elite adventurers.

This was the thought that lay heavy on everyone’s mind. Seeing waves of waves of goblins sending themselves to their death without care made the higher ups of the adventurer’s guild and the army worry. Although goblins are ferocious and sinister, they were no fools.

The death of their kin should have caused some of the goblins with weaker wills to falter. But after observing the battle till now, not a single goblin retreated. This should only possible if someone very powerful was ordering them to not retreat.

A goblin champion is indeed very powerful but it doesn't have the authority and the charisma to force the goblins to die for it.

“Yes… A goblin king should be present somewhere. Should I let the elites on our side test the water? …No, I should be patient. Besides, not a single champion showed up yet.”

The reason why the guild master and the elite adventurers have yet to make a move was because they were waiting for the goblin champions and the king to act. Currently, only ordinary goblins, the hob-goblins, and mages had shown themselves. The real powerful goblins had yet to make a move.

It was for this reason that there had been no casualties on their side yet.

“Speaking of which, I wonder if that girl is safe. If I’m not mistaken she should be attacking from the rear of the village right about now. Hopefully she’s safe.”

The guild master suddenly thought of the guild’s newest member who requested to work on her lonesome. Rennel was a mysterious girl who suddenly appeared in the guild just this morning carrying a recommendation letter from one of his acquaintance.

The recommendation letter was surprising enough by itself but it was the content that really surprised him. Despite her age, the girl, Rennel, was able to do something that very few adventurers had done: Fight a monster king and win!

It was for this reason that the guild master agreed to her request to work alone. If not for this fact, the somewhat nosy guild master will never have agreed to such a request.

The battle between the two forces were growing in intensity despite the darkening sky. Actually, it was because the sky was slowly turning dark that the attacks from the adventurers and the army are growing much fiercer. The reason for this was because the night was the goblins’ ally.

Unlike humans, goblins could see clearly at night. They were a race that could move unhindered in the darkness. Once the night falls, the raiding teams could only fight while doing their best. Moreover, the goblin champions and the goblin king might make a move during the night.

That said it was not like they're completely helpless when fighting at night. Like the goblins, they too have methods that they could use when fighting under the cover of darkness. Still, compared to fighting during the day, their group would be more disadvantaged.

Just like the alliance of adventurers and the army, Rennel too, will face some trouble if he continues fighting till the night. But not because she’ll have difficulty fighting in the darkness. No, the darkness itself won’t trouble her. After all she could also see in the dark thanks to the ability bestowed by her ‘seed.’

Her greatest concern would be exhaustion. Even though Rennel have more stamina compared to most people, it haven’t reached the point (yet) were she could fight for days without rest and sustenance. Moreover, even if she does have that much stamina, she would still be mentally drained if she continues to fight and kill for days without breaks.

Therefore, the girl still needed rest. Fortunately for her, she could retreat any time she wanted. This is because she was able to ensure her path of retreat even while fighting.

*Piercing sound*

Uggeh!

A goblin waving a rusted sword died after Rennel ran through it with her spear. She then swiped her spear (with the corpse of the dead goblin still on it) to the other goblins, dislodging the goblin that just died while killing the goblins rushing towards her.

In a distance, several goblin mages were preparing their next spells. Despite their spells failing to even land on the girl, the goblin mages still didn’t give up. Unfortunately for them, Rennel had enough of their constant harassment and lunges towards them with incredible speed!

Seeing this, the other goblins tried to stop them using their own bodies, only to be cut in half when Rennel passed through them. Several large hob-goblins wielding large shields also rushed towards Rennel in an attempt to stop her but suffered the same fate as the other goblins before them.

Before long, the girl reached the terrified goblin mages who stopped their chanting while attempting to run away. Unfortunately for them, they were destined to fail as Rennel had been planning to get rid of them from the very beginning. And so, with a cold glint in her eyes, Rennel proceeds to behead all of them with just a few swipes of her spear!

Rooooaaaaarrrrrrr!!!!

The other goblins roared furiously after seeing all of the goblin mages getting beheaded. They charged at the hateful human girl furiously – their thoughts filled with nothing but revenge.

The reactions of the goblins were obviously more intense when Rennel killed the goblin mages compared when she killed the regular goblins – and for a good reason.  Goblin mages are quite rare in the horde and were extremely valued by other goblins.

A horde with several goblin mages could grow much bigger and much faster compared to a horde without goblin mages. This is due to the ability of the mages to control the elements. Just like mages of other races, goblin mages value was not limited to the battlefield alone. The mages powers were also very useful in other fields like agriculture, engineering, medicine, and the likes.

In this world, it was common sense that the more mages a kingdom has, the more powerful it is. In many ways, mages are even more useful to the kingdom compared powerful warriors.

Similarly, this logic also applied to goblins as well. For the horde, a group of goblin mages were more important than a group of goblin champions. It was for this reason why hob-goblins were used to protect them.

Now that Rennel had killed all of the goblin mages in the vicinity, she could choose to move forward and face the furiously charging goblins or to retreat into the safety of the forest. But since this battle was part of her training, the girl chooses the first option.

Readying her spear, Rennel was about to charge at the charging goblins as well. But before she could do so, a large figure rockets towards her!

BANG!!!

The moment the figure landed, the ground shattered, sending dust and debris of earth and stones flying everywhere!

Using her spear, Rennel was able to deflect the debris flying towards her. The goblins that were furiously charging towards her on the other hand were not so fortunate. The debris pierced the heads and the bodies of the charging goblins, killing several of them in an instant.

What happened?!

Rennel stared at the huge figure standing mightily at the center of a large dust cloud. This figure has green skin covered in strange markings, large sinister eyes, a large mouth filled with rows of disgusting, yellowed, sharp teeth. But the thing that makes the creature stand up more was its tall and huge frame that was covered in muscles. Just one look at those muscles and one could see that they were filled with power.

What could the creature be other than a goblin?

Yes, the huge creature was indeed a goblin. But not just any goblin – it was a goblin champion!
