Chapter 10
Seeing the monstrous wolf lunging at her, Rennel did not panic. Instead she took a step forward and stabbed fiercely with her spear!
The spear, ‘Nameless’ stabbed at the lunging Black with incredible speed and being in the air, the monstrous wolf could not dodge the girl’s attack and was hit in the chest!
*Whimpering*
Black let out a cry of pain and was blown away by tens of meters. Still, the monster did not go down as expected and was actually able to recover rather quickly. Also, instead of being fearful and backing down, its ferocity actually increases as it lunges at the girl once again!
“It’s not wounded!”
Rennel was greatly surprised to see the monstrous wolf being uninjured despite being stabbed by her spear. Although Rennel did not use her full strength with that stab, the wolf shouldn’t have remained unscathed!
“What terrifying defensive power!”
The girl was suddenly reminded of Fahl’s village chief words. According to the village chief, the hunters who fought the monstrous wolf that time also failed to injure the monster. But compared to just hearing about it, actually seeing the monsters powerful defensive capability with her own eyes were two different concept altogether.
“Such a powerful ability. No wonder it was not afraid to face my spear. It has confidence to withstand my attack!”
Rennel’s expression grew more solemn after experiencing the monstrous wolf’s terrifying defensive capability. Still, she was not afraid. On the contrary, the monstrous wolf’s power made her somewhat excited.
Stepping forward once more, Rennel faces Black’s attack fearlessly. Again she stabbed towards the monster but this time, her stab possessed more power and speed!
*Piercing sound*
Nameless’ unstoppable momentum stabbed at the monstrous wolf’s body. It broke through the incredibly dense and steel-like fur and stabbed through the monster’s flesh!
The monstrous wolf black let out a howl of pain as it was thrown back once again. And unlike the last time, Black was not able get up as quickly as before.
Seeing the monster wolf struggling to get up, Rennel did not follow up on her attack. Instead she just stood still, waiting for the monster to get up.
“Don’t let your guard down. The more injury a beast sustain, the more dangerous it’ll become. This is especially true for beast desperately trying to protect something. Since it considered you a threat to its offspring, it would not stop unless you're truly incapacitated.” Chaos reminded.
“I understand, teacher.” Rennel answered.
The monster wolf managed to stand up again after a lot of effort and shook its head as if trying to dispel the discomfort that it was feeling.
Seeing this, Rennel griped her spear harder as she prepares to face the wolf once more. Since she has no plan to kill the wolf, Rennel could only slowly shave off the wolf’s ability to fight. Having just recently given birth, the monstrous wolf, Black, should still be in its weakened state. As such there’s a good chance that her plan would work.
Moreover, Rennel was very confident of her stamina thanks to the ‘seed’ that Chaos gifted her with. Therefore, in a protracted battle, she should have the advantage.
“Still, such fighting method is really boring. Having had to hold back my power as to avoid killing it was indeed a little stifling.” Rennel complained inside her heart.
Unaware of what’s on the girl’s mind; Black was finally able to recover from its earlier blunder. Even the injury it suffered had stopped bleeding completely. Still, that didn’t mean that the wound was not affecting the monster at all. It was actually the opposite. The stab wound it received earlier was still causing it great pain. What’s more… Black felt that the spear was not ordinary. It seemed to be slowly weakening it.
“There’s something wrong with that spear!” Black thought as it stared at the spear on the girl’s right hand. “Could it be a magic spear?”
Black had experienced and seen a lot of things over the years. As such she’s not stranger to magic weapons that humanoid races like humans often wield. It even fought with warriors that use magic weapons on several occasions. But Rennel’s spear seemed to be rather different compared to other magic weapon. Certainly, it shared similar properties to magic weapons such as having strange effects on the target it manages to wound.
“I’m certain there’s more to that green spear than meets the eyes.” Black’s eyes grew fiercer after realizing that it was at a disadvantage in this battle. Nonetheless, it has no plan of surrendering.
No it could not. How could it? Its child is just behind her!
If it were other occasion, the monstrous wolf, Black would not have fought against the human girl. After all, it’s not as savage as other monsters. On the contrary it was rather intelligent and would avoid conflict with humans as much as possible. What’s more, the human girl, Rennel seemed to be easy to talk to in comparison to other humans who would either run away from it or try to kill it.
But the situation was different. It could not back down. Because if it did, it’s uncertain what would happen to its child. Having had given birth for the first time, Black has strong attachment to its child.
Looking at the girl who waited for it to recover instead of attacking, Black could not help but develop some complicated feelings. But even so, Black would still choose its child over the unknown human girl.
There’s no point in holding back. For the safety of its child, it must go all out!
Having made up its mind, Black stared at the girl for several seconds before opening its mouth widely!

Blackish light gathered at the monster’s mouth which greatly shocked Rennel. Feeling great danger, Rennel dashes and stabbed towards the monstrous wolf in an attempt to stop whatever the monster was trying to accomplish.
Sadly, her reaction was a little slow allowing the monster to unleash a ball of dark energy – sending it flying towards the girl!
Unable to dodge in time and left with little choice, Rennel forcefully change the trajectory of her spear and directly stabbed towards the ball of dark energy!
BANG!
Once the spear stabbed at the ball of dark energy, the ball exploded, releasing powerful shockwaves that sent the spear along with her spear, flying!
Losing control of her body, Rennel slammed helplessly into the nearby wall. Having been slammed with great force, the air was knocked out of the girl’s lungs.
"Gah!" Rennel groaned.
Fortunately, the girl wasn’t shocked unconscious by the impact of being slammed on the wall or the explosion. Still, Rennel suffered some serious injuries, the worst of which were internal. If not for her powerful body that was modified by her ‘seed’, Rennel would have died there and then.
But despite being in a sorry state, Rennel was still able to stand. Moreover, despite being sent flying, Rennel didn’t let go of her spear ‘Nameless’ which was a wise decision on her part as the spear actually helped mitigate the damage that she received by absorbing part of the energy released by the ball of dark energy.
Stabbing the spear on the ground, Rennel was able to stabilize her condition. It was fortunate that the monstrous wolf, Black didn’t attack her while she was in the process of stabilizing her condition.
No, it’s not that the monstrous wolf didn’t attack but rather it could not attack. Although the girl was injured, the monstrous wolf was not in the best condition either.
Releasing such powerful ball of dark energy was not without repercussion. In order to release that ball of dark energy, the monstrous wolf had to consume almost all of the energy it had stored. Moreover, the shockwave from the blast did not only affect Rennel but the monster as well.
In order to protect its offspring from the explosion, the monstrous wolf had to withstand the shockwave on its own. And despite not having to face the full brunt of the explosion (that honor goes to Rennel and ‘Nameless’); the monstrous wolf, Black still suffered serious injuries.
Coupled with its earlier injuries and the fact that its body was weakened due to giving birth, the monster wolf was actually in a much worse shape compared to Rennel.
Seeing the monstrous wolf barely able to stand, a serious expression appeared on the girl’s face. Fully stabilizing herself, the girl started walking towards the monstrous wolf.
Rennel stopped before the Black and look straight into the monster's eyes.
“I really thought that the attack that I put my all into would be enough to bring you down. Even if you didn’t die, I still thought that it was enough to incapacitate you. Who would have thought that you’ll be able to brush such an attack so easily? Seriously, just what kind of monster are you?”
Barely standing, the monstrous wolf could only let out a frustrated sigh. Forget defeating the girl, Black’s desperate attack couldn’t even knock down the human girl for too long.
“How rude, I’m a human you know? Calling me a monster, was that supposed to be a joke?” Rennel asked exasperatedly.
“A joke? No, no… I think you’re the one joking here. The ball of dark energy that I released with all of my power should be enough to turn a normal human into ashes. And yet… You were able to simply shrug it off as if it was nothing. So tell me, Are you really human?”
The frustrated monster looks strangely at the flabbergasted girl. In the monster’s mind, it should be the one feeling flabbergasted. Unfortunately, the monstrous wolf was such in a bad shape that it might just fall unconscious any seconds now. If it still have enough strength, it’ll give this human girl an earful.
“It might be too much of me to ask of you this considering that I was determine to kill you earlier but please spare my child.” The monstrous wolf begged.
Knowing that it’ll be in the girl’s mercy once it lost consciousness, the monster wolf begged Rennel to spare its child despite being fully aware that it has no right to ask favor from the girl. Unfortunately, Black has no other choice. Without strength to depend its own child, the monstrous wolf could only take the risk and hope that the girl would show mercy to a defenseless creature.
After saying all of that, the monstrous wolf finally fall unconscious much to the girl’s relief. “It’s finally over…” Rennel murmured to herself as she sat down in front of the unconscious monster.
She was beat.
Despite looking nonchalant while talking to the monstrous wolf, Rennel was actually terribly exhausted. In her current condition, she would be hard pressed to fight the monster if it still had the strength to continue.
“You were careless,’ Chaos who was just watching everything unfolds until now finally spoke. And the first thing it actually did was to scold its student.
“…I’m sorry.”
Knowing her teacher’s personality, Rennel could only obediently apologize. Still, her teacher was right. She was indeed careless earlier. Or maybe, overconfident was the right word? If she had knocked the monstrous wolf unconscious when it was injured during the first clash, the monster wouldn’t have the chance to use its strongest attack. But because she was overconfident, the monster was able to release its strongest attack, injuring her badly in the process.
“I deserved it.” The girl thought to herself.
“Don’t look so down. You still did pretty well despite your carelessness. The fact that you refused to let go of your weapon, ‘Nameless’ despite being blown away was testament of your growth.” After scolding Rennel, Chaos suddenly praises the girl. It was a classic example of carrot and stick method.
Admittedly, the girl did indeed do an excellent job at solving her predicament. Despite making a lot of mistakes, she was still able to turn the situation around. Of course she had helped but it was also a fact that her quick reaction saved her life.
“Thank you, teacher!”
Hearing her teacher’s praise, Rennel was obviously very pleased. Nonetheless, she did not let her teacher’s praise to get into her head. She was aware of the blunder she had made earlier and must contemplate on it.
Pleased at her reaction, Chaos nodded its head approvingly. Chaos then looked at the monstrous wolf for several seconds before turning its eyes towards the back of the cave.
At the back of the cave, the two could hear the crying sound of an animal. Both of them knew what it was. It was the offspring of the monstrous wolf.
Chaos was still as normal as ever but Rennel felt guilty. Having just woken up, the pup must be hungry and was looking for its mother. It’s just that its mother was currently unconscious and could not go to it.
“Go see the pup and bring it here. I’ll take care of its mother.” Chaos ordered.
“Yes, teacher!”
Hearing that her teacher would care for the unconscious monster, Rennel was greatly pleased and ran towards the back of the cave to bring the crying pup over. Since her teacher promised to take care of the monstrous wolf, the creature should no longer be in danger.
