Why we use Bitcoin Cash to run our business

In the years before the pandemic, our business was to bring groups of students from Europe and other parts of the world to India. The purpose of these tours was to show them a part of the world that they had never seen before and to bring them closer to nature and themselves.

We run a backpacker hostel, a tour company, a cake brand, and an artisanal gourmet market called BeAnimal Gourmet in the city of Bangalore, India. We are also a non-profit working towards improving the quality of environmental education that people receive. Bangalore is a huge city of almost 11 million people. Many people here work in the tech industry and the city is generally quite affluent by Indian standards. This is something that I feel has been missed by the global crypto movement. We’ve focussed too much on speculation and too little on application and education.

This where we come in. With our growing customer base in the city, we can nudge people towards using bitcoin cash to avail discounts on products and cashbacks. This means that our marketing efforts can serve more than one purpose – we can promote Bitcoin Cash and grow our BeAnimal Gourmet customer base at the same time. We need to think about a smart way in which we can get people to start using BCH without overloading them with information. Most people have never thought twice about how currency works or how central banks and governments operate. They know that government officials are corrupt and that’s pretty much the extent of their knowledge. These are people who never question the status quo and probably never will.

I see our role as an intermediary between these two worlds. The group that knows a lot and believes that things can change for the better isn’t always the best to convey these messages to the public. Many times, people just shut off when we start talking about how cryptocurrencies work. I think we need to bridge this information divide in a smart and sustainable way. Another thing we need to look into is making the conversion from fiat to crypto as smooth as possible. The government here regulates these types of financial transactions quite strictly and it’s hard to find banks that agree to play ball. These roadblocks slow down crypto adoption and make it trickier to get people on board.

People also have this idea that using crypto might land them in jail. There has been so much spoken about banning cryptocurrencies lately that people just don’t know what to believe anymore. On one end, there’s this frenzied gold rush and on the other people are weary that cryptocurrencies are a scam or even worse are exclusively used by criminals and fraudsters. The fact of the matter is that unless they dive deep and understand how this system works, they will never find out what’s going on for themselves.

I know that we have a long way to go – but we know our goal and what it takes to get there. We believe that empowering small businesses to make a huge difference to all of us.
