Once upon a time, our ancestors believed in mermaids, magical creatures that were half human and half fish. The talk of rewarding anyone who catches a mermaid, dead or alive, was also popular.

Centuries ago, there lived a handsome fisherman named Santiago. In the seas of Pagadian, he ventures with each wave of water to catch more prey each day.

One afternoon, while fishing alone, he heard a beautiful voice. He followed the voice until he found a mysterious beautiful woman behind the rocks. He could not believe what he saw, this woman's voice was divine and beautiful. But the young man noticed something, the girl in front of him had a fish-like tail.

When the girl noticed that someone had seen her, she was nervous and quickly swam, but she captured the man's heart and immediately paddled to chase it.

Santiagong convinced the two of them to talk and as a result they became close to each other. The mermaid Clara introduced herself to the young man. After that happened, they met and talked in that place every day until they fell in love with each other.

The two confessed their feelings and eventually became lovers. Because of Santiago's great love for Clara, he thought of joining his beloved kingdom to live there. At first, Clara did not agree with the young man's wishes but she insisted so she just agreed.

Three days after Santiago did not return home, his family was shocked and began to worry. Concerned, his parents called other fishermen to look for their son.

Santiago and Clara, on the other hand, were in the place they used to go, behind the big rock where they first met. The couple was playing with fish when suddenly a group of fishermen arrived who were surprised by what they saw. They pushed it because they thought he had charmed Santiago to be one of the so-called captives of the mermaids. The man immediately protected his beloved and unfortunately he was hit by a raft and died. The mermaid tried to get away but she was also caught and subsequently killed.

The fish said they saw the violent killing of two in the tree kingdom of mermaids filled with anger so they wanted to punish people to learn them. They released a very strong wave, or so-called "tsunami" today, which drowned and killed fishermen and caused great damage throughout the city of Pagadian.

This tsunaming left a precipice that served as a sign of the greed of the people then that led to what happened to the couple. Now, the people at sea, the fish, have become very kind to each other, and will not oppress the mermaid in case they see it.
