Today is the Feast of Palm Sunday: Do you know why twigs and flowers are blessed in the church today. Today, Catholic believers celebrate the Feast of Palm Sunday or the Sunday of the Passion of the Lord. Flower Festival is an introduction to Holy Week. It is celebrated every year the Sunday before Easter. It is customary for the faithful to carry olive and palm twigs to Mass for blessing, remembering the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem whom the people welcomed 2000 years ago by waving twigs and shouting at him. Another custom is associated with Palm Sunday, and that is washing in spring flowers, usually violets, and is carried out by picking flowers whose petals are immersed in clean water, in which the householders then perform early morning washing, which is associated with beauty, health and prosperity. According to the customs, good wishes are said aloud during washing. Preparations for Easter, the greatest Christian holiday, begin with flowering in many homes.
