Series Review: Legend Of The Blue Sea

I'm watching this amazing show and I don't have anyone to talk to about it. It's kdrama and I come from a place where it's highly ridiculed. The few that I know who watch aren't exactly friends of mine.

My best friend is AWOL right now so it seems this will have to do. Who knows, I might pick up a few lads here too. Back to the main though. It's called Legend Of The Sea, about a mermaid who fell in love with a man onshore (sounds familiar?) but dies before they get their happy ending (not so familiar now huh.)

This was all in the 1600's - roughly - and the man who wanted to capture her for her tears (which "incidentally" turns into pearls) set a trap for her and her lover Dam Ryeong went to save her and died in the process. The kicker - this happens all over again!

All the major players in this tragedy are reborn, probably because our maiden mermaid Se Hwa made a wish that they'd meet in a next life. Who knows. But she makes it to land as an adult and meets future Dam Ryeong who is now Heo Joon Jae, a conman on the run after his last job. The two bond but the thugs working for the businesswoman he duped eventually get to him. And she finds him cornered at a cliff, pushes him off, jumps in after him and kisses him to take away all memories of her - mermaid quirk. (why wasn't this in H20: Just Add Water?)

After which he returns to Seoul to fix the mess he made by hypnotizing the businesswoman to forget about him (apparently this dude went to college to hypnotize people; should come in handy when you forget to turn in an assignment) and go about his daily debacle. Till she shows up.

This young woman swam for 3months -months!!- to get from Spain to Seoul just to see him, same dude who can't even recall ever meeting her. And that's pretty much how she turned stalker. Then homeless girl he was aiding. Then crush. Then lover.

Did I mention a serial killer was after him too?
