Play2Earn games in another few years

We are able to see many Play2Earn games emerging these days. Many games start with their token sales and get their funding ready to actually work on a game. That's always been the strategy. There are only a few games that are already production ready and make people earn money by playing. Splinterlands is one best example of such a game. The early investors have already got their investment back in Splinterlands. The new investors might soon get their investment back too. The economy is stable and growing.

In another few years down the line, there is a high possibility for many games to emerge. There are also games already in the making. Games try to take advantage of the NFT features blockchain has and also the ability to create and distribute tokens. With the game, developers are also able to reward the players and the players get a source of income along with the fun they get by playing the game.

The gaming industry is still not into Blockchain yet. Many companies have started exploring this technology already. I know a few people who are game developers and would like to explore blockchain for their next game. I also had a chance to talk to some of them and give them ideas as to how they can get started. I guess I should start charging people for giving such ideas. xD

When people think about building games on top of a blockchain, they usually misunderstand that all their game data will stay inside the blockchain and the continuous real-time interaction between the player and the game engine will also happen with the help of the blockchain. This is not what they should be doing. The game should be developed like a normal game with proper backend technology. Only the part where tokenization and asset management should be done with the help of NFTs. Other game-related data should be on a backend database. But they can also work on keeping the backend as a public node with witness validations where it can be made decentralized and anybody who is hosting the node will be able to participate in consensus and they can also get incentives for the same. This way there will not be an infrastructure cost for the developers.

That being said, it is not easy to implement. I guess Splinterlands is going to be exploring that idea soon but not all the games would be able to adapt to that mechanism yet. People are just starting to understand how blockchain works and how cryptocurrencies and NFTs can be a boon for the gaming industry. I believe in another few years down the line this should be achievable and when metaverse games develop, this concept should mature a lot who knows maybe in the future all the games will become only blockchain games and it can be rare to see a game that is not associated with blockchains and cryptocurrencies.
