Love Today - Tamil movie review
I realized that it has been a while since I wrote a movie review. I wanted to write one today. These days it looks like younger generation movies are now a thing and most of the recent movies are targeted toward the younger generation. The trend keeps changing and a while back there were a lot of thriller movies and horror movies. That season slowly ended and this is the first film in the genre done by a young director who himself acted as the hero in the movie. I'm going to be talking about a movie called Love Today that was released recently and became a mega-hit in the theaters. The movie is now available on Netflix and it is said that the collection still keeps going high.
These days movies in India are released in multiple languages either dubbed or remade. Love Today is no one such movie. It was targeted only toward the Tamil audience and it was expected to be only an ordinary movie that would attract Tamil people and especially the younger generation. But to the surprise of everyone, the movie was a great hit and later the movie was also dubbed into Telugu and released for the Telugu audience. I'm sure it would go further and get released in other languages as well.
The movie's concept is about two young lovers who inform their parents about their love. The girl's father says that he would agree to their marriage if they exchange their mobile phones for a minimum of 4 days. The lovers were very confident that they both know each other very well and that this wouldn't be a big deal. Things start getting complicated little by little when they individually find out some disturbing secrets about the other. This is how the story travels and they have implated several messages in the movie that is very helpful for people who are addicted to social media.
I initially thought the movie was only for the younger audience but then later after the first 25 percent of the movie was done, I really enjoyed the movie and it was a full-filled experience. In some of the scenes, people literally fell out of their chairs and laughed. I was also experiencing the same thing. I don't know if this would be an enjoyable movie for everyone or people from other cultures as well but this is something new for our crowd.
The movie not only focused on social media issues and young people's love but it also gave a good message about body shaming. That was one serious part that gave us tears literally to everyone and made us feel good. This movie was not only a fun-filled movie but was also a feel-good movie and some people might even be willing to watch this movie multiple times. Mostly the younger generation here whom we call 2k kids would love this movie. The initial budget of this movie was only 5 crore which was close to 600k USD but the box office collection was around 50 crore and even more which comes to around 6000k USD. This is one of the biggest collections for a low-budget movie and for an emerging director.
