Hard to have real money being traded in games

Some of the popular games on Steam and other gaming platform have restricted people from trading in-game items with real money. They allow people to purchase assets with real money but they don't allow people to purchase anything from other players or sell something to other players. There used to be a time when someone can purchase on behalf of another player and send the assets to the other players. I have seen players doing it in Dota 2 game. Later there was a restriction introduced for that too.

It has always been a problem when it comes to FIAT money being traded for an asset with another player. For example, Steam allows people to sell their items to other players using their market, but the money accumulated from that cannot be withdrawn to the bank account. This has been the case and this was my experience when I tried to withdraw some money by selling assets in Dota 2. Though this was several years back, I believe the experience was still the same.

I remember using a trick where when someone want to buy something, I used to use my credits to purchase those items for them and later transfer it to them. Later Dota 2 identified that people were exploiting that feature and they stopped the transfer of items from one person to another person. I think maybe the option to gift something to someone is still available. I'm not fully sure as I have not tried anything recently.

Regulation is a strong reason

I was wondering what could be the reason for this restriction and one thing that I can think of is because of the regulations. People can potentially earn a lot of money with this and there are also people who do this as their full-time job. But bringing a law on this can be really challenging and that can be the reason why they did not want people to trade between themselves.

There is also a high possibility of scams happening if this is available without any problem. One of the biggest scams is when a random player tries to purchase something but never pays it back. Mostly it used to be safe to do such trading only with people whom we know. It is also hard to bring any regulation based on different types of scams.

Cryptocurrencies break this barrier

With the help of cryptocurrencies, there is a high possibility that a real market can be created around the game and if the options are enabled, the game players should be able to trade their assets with other players with the help of cryptocurrencies. This is still in the exploration stage but there have been a few games already trying to do this. Cryptocurrencies are creating several opportunities both inside as well as outside the gaming industry.

Only now people have started thinking about this idea and when a new game is introduced this concept is naturally created and made available. This is because that is the nature of blockchain games and how it would work. If we start trading real money inside the games, there would be a new economy created around this concept and people will start making this as their active or passive income.

With the help of cryptocurrencies and blockchain games, people are now able to trade their in-game assets with other players.
