Buy only the laptops that have SSD

The hard disk technology is continuously improving. From magnetic tapes, we are able to see many new advancements and today we have Nvme which is the most advanced technology that has taken the disk speed to a greater level. We are able to see so many advancements in this field and that has improved a lot in the last few years. Most of the recent hard disks are Solid State Devices that are highly efficient compared to regular HDD devices. I'm glad that in my generation, I have seen different storage technologies and have personally used them. Except for the magnetic tape, I should say that I have used all other things.

I remember using Floppy disks that had 1.44 MB size. I used to split the files to 1 MB and travel back and forth from my friend's house to my house to copy a 10 MB file. Then finally I would combine the file to 10 MB and use it. This has been a great memory for me. Then later CD and DVD and BD Ray discs came into existence. I have used all of them and I still have so many movies on those. But I don't have a CD reader on my laptop and I guess all those will slowly go to trash as those movies are available online these days easily.

After this IDE hard disks were very common and I have used them too. Those are the hard disks for my desktop computers and I used to purchase Seagate brand. Those are the fat ones and we have to connect them with IDE cables. The transfer speed was not very efficient and then later came SATA which was pretty much faster compared to IDE. I still have my old IDE hard disk with me. I'm not using it but I have that inside my old desktop. This evolution of the hard disk technology had been very interesting and imagine how small the storage devices would be in the future.

After this, I switched to Laptops and that is when I stopped worrying more about hardware, and my exploration reduced. In recent years, I came to know more about SSD and Nvme. When I bought my laptop 5 years back, I only had HDD in my laptop and back then SSD was very costly and was not affordable. I did not know the importance of using SSD. But later when I started playing games and coding, my laptop sucked and the disk was always at 100% efficiency which slowed down my laptop so much.

About 2 to 3 years back I switched to M.2 Nvme. Luckily my laptop had a Nvme slot and I was able to purchase a compatible Nvme disk and use it. M.2 Nvme is also SSD but with a greater speed and other differences. The booting speed of my laptop increased to just 3 seconds after using M.2 Nvme. The reason for writing this article is that a few days back one of my friends also had this problem where his laptop was struggling to boot and was very slow. Reinstalling OS multiple times did not help him out. I recommended him change his disk to SSD. He did not have a M.2 Nvme slot on his laptop but SATA SSD was a possibility. He installed it and noticed a great improvement in the performance. He happily said that he would use his laptop for another 5 years now.

If you are someone planning to purchase a new laptop, I would recommend going for either SATA SSD or an M.2 Nvme. I would say it is good to choose Nvme because the efficiency is better. It can be a little costly but it is worth the price because the usage and experience would be great and we will not be having any storage and speed-related problems in the future.

Nice you are also in Hive! What does ssd has that your old disk doesn't? Really not aware of this hahaha. Thanks for the info too, helpful.

SSD is 30 times faster than your regular harddisk depending on which SSD you choose.
