Always have a second job
This is one of the biggest learnings that everyone had during the Covid time. Many people lost their jobs because of less social interaction and many businesses were doing very badly and had to downsize to keep the business going. This is when many people lost their jobs and some people even had to change their profession because they had nothing else to do or they couldn't find another suitable job for them again. This has been the case even for people who's job was affected because of automations but that's a different topic to discuss. The point is that it is always good to have a second job and not be so dependent on your primary job alone.
For people who got into debt depending on their monthly income for paying back in the form of EMI, losing a job is a nightmare. This happened to one of my friends recently. He had no progress in his current job as his salary was the same for several years now. During the COVID time, they were showing COVID as a reason not to pay him extra and it still continued because they literally wanted him to leave and find another job. This friend of mine had a family, a kid, and also an EMI going on. He was so stagnate but then later he took a tough decision to leave his job and started looking for another job. The biggest challenge was that the companies were not even considering him because he had a 3 months notice period. He finally completed his notice period, became an immediate joiner, and got a job for a better salary.
The point that I would like to make here is that having a second job would always give a motivation that even if the main job is gone today for some reason, either it is automation or because of another pandemic, the second job should help us keep going in our life. At one point we can decide and make the second job our primary and move on. One of the wise men once said "Cultivate as many hobbies as possible. One day one of your hobbies will become your profession." This is a true statement and I believe in this statement. The reason is that a hobby is something that is interesting for us and we might be willing and enthusiastic to do something. If that becomes our profession, then it will be very interesting. I would say that anyone who is looking for a second job can have one of their hobbies as their second job that gives some additional income. The main job can still continue which is something that they do with their acquired skill.
Some jobs can be frustrating
For some people working under someone else would be the most difficult thing and even if they try hard, it is hard for them to work under someone. The reason is because they are mostly creative people and want things to be done their own way. If there is a hinderance and disturbance to their thought process then even though they are highly skillful they find it hard to continue working in that environment.
For people like them, having a second job is good because they can be their own boss in their second job and there will always be a thought that they already have a good alternative this thought will suppress their thoughts about the primary job and they would be satisfied to go easy in their primary job. I have seen this happening to a few people and they have expressed that they are able to continue working under someone if that is not their only job.
