Queen Jelena proclaimed a saint The Serbian ruling dynasty of Nemanjić marked two centuries of the Middle Ages in the historical development of the Serbian people, and on the wider Balkans. Ten rulers from this dynasty changed on the throne of Serbia from 1168 to 1371. The rulers from the Nemanjić dynasty ruled the further development and the course of the history of the Serbian people in the two centuries they ruled Serbia. The most famous queen of the Nemanjić dynasty was the wife of the Serbian king Stefan Uroš I and the mother of future rulers, Stefan Dragutin and Stefan Milutin. Her origin has not been fully explained. The oldest and still most accepted theory says that Jelena of Anjou was of French origin and a cousin of King Charles of Anjou of Naples, whose brother, Louis IX, ruled France at the time. While waiting for Jelena's wedding procession that was coming to Deževo, King Uroš planted lilacs on the part of the road she was supposed to take in order to give his future wife an environment similar to the Mediterranean areas in which she grew up. For seven centuries, the valley of the river Ibar has been adorned with the memory of the romantic gesture of the king for, later the Serbian queen, Jelena Anžujska, by making that valley Provence. The Lilac Valley was created as a romantic gift from the Serbian king Stefan Uroš I, who wanted his future wife to feel like she was in her native Provence while she was coming to his court. She was the wife of the king and the mother of kings. She built churches and monasteries. She ruled the people and served God. Towards the end of her life, she became an Orthodox nun and built the Gradac monastery, which is near Studenica and Sopoćani, where she is portrayed as a nun. Although she came to Serbia as a Roman Catholic, in the end she accepted the Orthodox faith and decided to become a monk in the church of St. Nicholas in Shkodra. She died there in 1314. Queen Jelena of Anjou, the wife of Uroš I, left a big mark in Serbian history. She is the first woman in Serbian literature to whom life is dedicated and who received a cult from the church. She was the founder of the monastery and was proclaimed a saint.

I always go back to my hometown The house consists not only of objects, but also of the people who live in it. You have the feeling that your house is your home only when that house is permeated with warmth, well-being, peace and harmony, and they are achieved only if the family members are united and respect each other. There are many different houses, or homes where people live. Some live in an apartment, some in an apartment, some in a ground floor house, some in a house upstairs, and some live in a studio apartment. My house is not made up of walls, roof and windows, my house is made up of my loved ones. When we were kids we hung out a lot in front of the building. Almost not a day has passed when we did not gather in front of the playground at a certain time and organize a party for ourselves. We knew a lot of games that today's kids don't play as far as I can tell. We played jurke, žmurke, we rolled skates, organized competitions, played basketball, tennis, football and much more. This house is not just a house! This is home! The most beautiful! The hottest! The happiest! This is the trail on which I took my first steps. This path I played a round leaving my parents ’home. Some new kids are following this path! Our kids! They go to their grandparents to make their day happy!

The life of the beautiful Queen Mary Maria von Hohenzollern was the second of six children of Romanian King Ferdinand. She was born in 1900 in the German city of Gotha, and spent her childhood at a Romanian court. Mary's maternal great-grandmother was Britain's Queen Victoria. She was nicknamed Mignon early on - some say because she was as cute as a minion, and some claim that they called her that after the opera that her mother watched just before she gave birth to her. Little Mignon grew into one of the most beautiful princesses in Europe, adorned with a rich education. She was educated at the most prestigious institutions, and in addition to Romanian, she spoke fluent English, German and French. When the horrors of the First World War slowly began to fade and when the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes was created, Aleksandar Karađorđević was already 34 years old and since 1921 he has been a king, but without a queen. That is why the matter of his marriage soon became not only a personal matter of the young monarch, but also a serious state issue. Since the monarch's wedding is never just his personal matter, the political leadership of the newly created state also joined the choice of a wife for the Yugoslav king. The main question was whether the queen should be "from the people" or it is better to choose a princess or a princess from European courts. As in the Karadjordjevic dynasty, the custom of marrying Serbian women prevailed until then, it was concluded that it would be good for King Alexander to choose a "foreigner" and thus at the same time "ennoble the dynasty" and raise the international reputation of the kingdom. In addition to beauty, she was a very educated lady - she was educated in the most prestigious schools, and in addition to Romanian, she spoke fluent English, German and French. She soon spoke Serbian. She married the Yugoslav "unifier" king - Aleksandar Karadjordjevic. They say that the popularity of the people began to gain even before the wedding, when from the balcony of the Old Palace, after she came to her new homeland for the first time, she greeted the gathered, saying: "I thank you from the bottom of my heart!" Queen Mary and King Alexander soon became role models for all European royal couples. They lived in harmony and seclusion, and the marriage was crowned by three sons - Peter, Tomislav and Andrej. It didn't take long for Queen Marija to buy the hearts of the ladies of Belgrade with her elegance and sophistication. But even more than that ... she was loved by ordinary women, citizens as well as villagers, and she gave them back by opening schools, hospitals, kindergartens and donating money to charities. Many countries sent their envoys to the royal wedding in Belgrade. Representatives were sent even by Persia, and even distant Japan, and a guest from Austria arrived, with whom Serbia was at war until four years ago. 24 hours before the wedding, more than 20,000 people arrived in Belgrade! Queen Mary and King Alexander soon became role models for all European royal couples. They lived in harmony and seclusion, and the marriage was crowned by three sons - Peter, Tomislav and Andrej. One October day in 1934, when King Alexander was assassinated in Marseilles. The queen endured her pain with dignity and silence, becoming a widow with three sons at the age of 34, of whom the eldest had 11 and was to become king. She wore black for two years, completely turning to her sons' education and charity work during that time. In the years that followed, she took care of the Red Cross Society, signed the Charter of the Rights of the Child and donated to dozens of humanitarian organizations. Queen Marija helped build the Children's Clinic in Tirsova Street and the Institute of Oncology with personal funds. Another event that did not irreversibly change the life of the "people's queen" was the beginning of the Second World War and the departure from Yugoslavia. By that time, Queen Mary's life had already changed radically. She lived with her sons Tomislav and Andrej in a small country house on the "Old Mill" estate near London. When it became certain that they would never return to Yugoslavia when the new government took away all their privileges and property, the family retired to the property in Kent.

Be a strong woman When we want to achieve something, in addition to a clear desire about what we want, it is important to ask ourselves what kind of person I want to become. Empowered, calm, secure, stable, free, prosperous ... With an attitude and statements like "I could be happy if ... I had a better job, had a better partner, a better boss, more obedient children, had more friends, time for myself, someone respected me more, had an interesting job ..." we will always be unhappy and victims, even if all of the above changes. You don't need to have something better, you need to be better with yourself and this rest will get better ... This is how powerful women work and act, and you are powerful. So take life into your own hands today, take responsibility for your attitudes, thoughts, views, emotions, words and deeds ... And go ... In this period of corona and isolation, a new space for love has emerged in me. It rings in me more than ever how important it is for women to realize that they are truly worthwhile and deserving, and to achieve that beauty of being with themselves. Somehow I waited my whole life to finish college, find a good job, have children, raise children, lose weight after giving birth, next winter, next year ... In fact, the puzzles of my life did not work out until I took life into my own hands, stopped waiting for the perfect circumstances and made the first small, tiny step towards the life I wanted to live.

There was once a terrible camp Today, Goli Otok has been abandoned, and the only visitors are important tourist, nudist and rare explorers. Prior to the campaign, the review was uninhabited. Most of this complex was built indoors. Historians believe that the first camp on Goli Otok was founded during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, during the First World War. His prisoners were popularly Russian war producers. Croatian novelist and poet Ante Zemljar, who was on Goli Otok from 1949 to 1953, wrote that the participants in that city's prison complex were published in Russian military uniforms. Among them, since no archeological excavations have been carried out, the story of the first victims of the island remains a popular legend. After the death of Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito in 1980, the camp was created in a juvenile colony that is closed every year because there are international human rights organizations that have accused Yugoslavia. After the final creation of the complex in 1988, the last guards left it. Only the sheep that the locals of Rab took to the pasture and the rabbits that the inhabitants of the surrounding islands raised for hunting remained. Goli Otok was the largest set in which the so-called "informants" were imprisoned - people accused of being members of Stalin at the time of his conflict with Tito. The camp on Goli Otok, a small rocky island near Rab, was established in July 1949. It was the time of the Resolution of the Inform Bureau and the conflict between Tito and Stalin. The island is naturally isolated with strong winds and currents in the surrounding sea, there were no trees or drinking water on it and it was not inhabited. The treatment of prisoners on Goli Otok was primarily characterized by brutality. Because they were seen as ideological opponents, they tried to “re-educate” them in the classic Stalinist style, and it was not only important for the authorities to punish them with imprisonment, but to make them think differently. As a result, they were exposed not only to hard physical labor, but part of their regular practice was harassment and humiliation: prisoners had to punish other prisoners or hand them over to prison authorities. After Stalin's death in March 1953 and the official end of the conflict with the Soviet Union in 1956, the camp on Goli Otok was disbanded. A "normal" prison for criminals, young adults, but partly for some later political prisoners, was then established there. The "Rab-Goli Otok Penitentiary" was finally closed in 1988. he thinks of his first phase - the camp for informers

The hard life of migrants For many expats, getting used to a new life and finding new friends can be very difficult. Given the great differences in culture and language, in some places people are more well-meaning and more friendly than in some other places. When we hear the word "migrant", we mean those who travel thousands of kilometers with dangerous backpacks in dangerous conditions. International Migrants Day, December 18 Migrants can flee from poverty, natural disasters caused by climate change, wars, persecution, but they are also people who move for education, employment and other reasons. Four years after one of the biggest migrant crises in Europe, the so-called Balkan route, which brought people to Southeast Europe who were left without anything, fleeing the war conflicts in their homelands, a lot has changed. More than a million people have passed through Serbia since 2015, most of them longing to reach some of the countries of the European Union. The number of migrants who want to stay in Serbia is statistically negligible. Their final destination is the countries of Western Europe, and therefore they see Serbia only as a transit country. Unfortunately, women and children fled their homes because it was the only way to save their own lives, that a number of them were accommodated in our centers for asylum seekers / reception centers, but that for most of them migrant routes are extremely difficult and dangerous. Therefore, women and children more often wait for their loved ones in camps in Turkey, Jordan or Greece, wait for their husbands or eldest sons to eventually break through to the European Union country, and hope to re-establish the possibility of family reunification. The lives of these people are difficult and sad. I want them to arrive in the Promised Land, for families to reunite and live a life worthy of a man

Weeds are herbs and medicinal We have all noticed burdock berries on our legs at least once after a walk in nature. Did you know that the burdock that is attached to your wardrobe is one of the best herbal cleansers? A plant that grows in a wide belt from the California coast to Siberia. Its healing properties were discovered by people in the Neolithic. From then until today, folk medicine has nurtured great confidence in its beneficial powers. Burdock is a biennial plant up to 150 cm tall. It grows to a height of two meters and has very large leaves. The root is large, juicy, branched and dug up to 60 cm. The leaves are very large, with petioles, heart-shaped or ovate, on the underside gray-white and hairy, serrated edges. Towards the top of the stem the leaves shrink. The flower heads are grouped in a clustered or paniculate inflorescence, and are located on short stalks. The outer leaves of the flower head on the tip of the nose are hooks (such a head spreads as a whole and is usually called "burdock"). In the middle of the head there are purple-purple tubular flowers. It grew wild in Europe, and was introduced to Asia and North America. The sheath of the flower consists of leaves that are hooked, which allows the burdock to spread its seeds in this way. Burdock root has an antidote effect, accelerates the excretion of urine and sweat, and cleanses the blood. It is also used in the treatment of venereal diseases, all types of ulcers, scrofula, gout (role), obsolete rheumatic diseases, water sickness and mercury poisoning. Tea from young leaves is used in the treatment of catarrh of the stomach and bloating, and it is a good remedy against various rashes, ulcers, purulent wounds and sores in the mouth. Burdock seed is used for all diseases for which both the root and the leaves are used, with the fact that the seed has a stronger effect. Burdock seed is used to make burdock oil, which is a very good remedy for dandruff and hair loss. Burdock root, leaves and seeds lose their healing properties after a year. Also, the root and leaf are used for inflammation and stomach ulcers, they are used to promote sweating, digestion, help relieve rheumatism, skin eczema, lichens, rashes, purulent wounds and scurvy. Dried root crushed into powder and mixed with edible (olive) oil, heals purulent wounds when smeared with it. The underground part of this famous thorn plant can be an important addition to every person's diet, because there are so many good things in it that can't harm anyone.

This is my happiness Throughout his life, a man tries to discover the eternal secret, he tries to discover what it is that really makes him happy, he tries to discover what it really fulfills him completely. Human happiness is a very unstable and changeable thing, each of us has his own opinion about happiness, each of us has different desires, goals and visions. All people are different and each of them has his own way of approaching happiness, each of them treats it in his own way. Some people need very small things for happiness, some people make small things happy and satisfied. But there are also people who are not satisfied with small things and who always want and expect to have something that is unattainable for them at that moment. All this makes a huge confusion when it comes to happiness, we just need to understand that happiness is hidden from all that, we need to see that happiness is actually in us. One difficult year has passed for all of us. I often dreamed of some luxury ... of traveling to popular destinations, good cars, a big house ..... The year came when we had only one thought. When it made us happy, just to be healthy. The year when the covid took many casualties. When we are denied freedom of movement, we are denied hugs .... Lots of time to think ... now I know happiness is my family. This is my sister, mom and I. Our smile tells us what happiness is for us. These are my daughters and me. Happiness is when we are satisfied with ourselves and when we hold our life in our hands, happiness is when we always and everywhere enjoy our life. For me, happiness is when I am next to people who mean a lot to me and whom I love and when I feel safe and secure around them . Nothing more is needed for my happiness, just a little love, tolerance and respect are enough. I never expected something impossible from happiness, I always try to think realistically and to harmonize my desires with my possibilities. I can proudly say that I managed to find my happiness in my family.

Symbolism for Christmas A layman is the person who first enters the house on Christmas. He steps with his right foot over the threshold, greets the family with the words "Christ is born", to which they answer "Truly he is born". Then the layman approaches the fire and with a twig from the Christmas tree is a fire, saying "How many sparks are so many pairs, how many sparks are so much happiness and joy" and further enumerating everything that he thinks should be multiplied in the host's house. The first person to enter the home on Christmas has a special mission. My little boy was the first to enter our house today. Beautiful, cheerful, smiling, playful. It is believed that thanks to that, the family will be healthy and happy throughout the year, with a touch of the old belief that the position is a sage from the east. Usually, the role of the happy one is played by a child, who receives a symbolic gift as a sign of gratitude. It is important that every house and family experiences the presence of God among themselves, through love, peace and the joy of the holidays, so that they can breathe in the same spirit all year long and forever.

Today we celebrate Christmas ! Orthodox believers today celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ, with the traditional greeting: Peace of God, Christ is born - He is truly born. Christmas is a holiday of the birth of a new life, a holiday of children and childhood, a holiday of parenthood - fatherhood and motherhood. Among Serbs, this holiday is decorated with the most beautiful religious customs and rituals, which have one basic meaning and goal: to pray to God to preserve and increase the family and property of the host. At the festive Christmas table, the most important is garlic, a cake in which a gold or silver coin is placed, and it is broken at lunch exclusively with the hands. Whoever finds a coin in their piece, is believed to be lucky in the next year. We got up early this morning, made a cake ... with a rich meal and welcomed Christmas. The coin was found by my daughter. The most beautiful and happiest day of the year. Christmas is wonderful, because it is filled with love, joy, family gathering around the table. It is a day without quarrels and discussions. If we wake up on January 7 with the knowledge that it is a special day, full of love and joy, then every day can be Christmas for us.

@bakanica

Christ is born Customs say that on the eve of Christmas, Christmas Day, the oldest and youngest man in the household go to the forest early in the morning to get a Christmas tree - an oak or cherry tree that they will bring into the house during the evening. Christmas Eve symbolizes Jesus Christ and is cut with a special rite. At the place where the Christmas tree was cut, something had to be left: a piece of bread or a little wheat. Christmas Eve is cut in three strokes, and if it is not cut like that, then it is broken by twisting. It used to be like that, and today it would be perfectly fine to go to the green market for a Christmas tree branch and bring it into the house just before dinner. One drain branch is added to the Christmas tree, which symbolizes health and strength. When men come with a Christmas tree, the family greets them and congratulates each other on Christmas Day with the words: "Good Christmas Eve" and "Good evening and happy Christmas Eve". I remember as if I were watching my grandmother takes me to church next to me people are kissing and the cry of My little fingers tremble my grandmother takes me to church come on, son, cross yourself and say Christ is born My little fingers tremble my grandmother takes me to church come on, son, cross yourself and say Christ is born

Pain on the stomach The stomach is the widest part of the digestive tract. It is a sac-like extension. It is used for mixing and partial digestion of food. Food from the esophagus reaches the stomach in the form of a bolus. It transforms into a porridge. The stomach gradually pushes this porridge into the duodenum, ie into the small intestine, where digestion and absorption continue. Every time the inner part of the body is "pushed" into an area that does not belong to it, it is called a hernia. Hiatus hernia (gastric hernia, gastric hernia) is formed as a bulge that passes through the opening that connects the stomach and esophagus and which is part of the digestive system. Otherwise, hence the name disorder: hiatus means esophagus and hernia hernia. This is a disorder that affects a large number of people, although many do not know it. It often takes a long time until the right diagnosis is made and a large number of inconveniences that a person experiences are not attributed to the real cause - hiatal hernia. Precisely because of the large number of symptoms that indicate other disorders - the hiatus hernia is called a great imitator - it resembles other diseases, and it itself remains hidden for a long time. Shallow breathing and inability to breathe with full lungs, shortness of breath when walking, heartburn, heaviness and pain in the stomach, nervousness, indigestion, bloating, anxiety… Did you think you had stomach problems? There are certain techniques that can help you get your stomach back in place and continue to live normally. When your stomach swells, you have no air, you feel pain in your back, and you can't eat anything, you get a fast pulse, arrhythmia, tachycardia, your heart starts beating, and so on. It all happens because the stomach is not in its place and it cannot digest food normally, so you often burp, hiccup, your hands are cold, etc., you may even get nervous because of all that because you are uncomfortable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu9SodkzaYs I had stomach problems. I came across this video on YouTube. My dears, I want to share with you my experience regarding the stomach problem and maybe in this way help someone who has a stomach ache or has a stomach hernia problem. First of all, I don't need any synthetic drugs for this, but this is solved in a completely natural way. Here's how.

The first movie! The exact origin of the first film is difficult to discover, because people made a somewhat full film earlier. The Eternal Historian, along with other countries, agrees that the first film was made in the late 1800s. During that period, several finalists can be in the race for the first film. Thomas Edison, William KL Deacon and many others appear there. However, the first film was broadcast on October 14, 1888. It was made in England and produced by Louis Le Princess. It lasted 2.11 seconds and was called "Roundhai Garden Scene". This is a short no film made by the project. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knD2EhjGwWI YouTube On September 13, 1890, L. Leprance disappeared in France while traveling by rail. Neither his body nor his luggage was found during subsequent searches. The inventor’s son Adolphe Louis fought for his father’s film to be recognized as the world’s first film. However, he failed in the legal proceedings. And after the trial, he was shot by an unknown person. Truly a plot for a detective thriller! Leprance’s story is not well known. Most people consider the Lumiere brothers to be the inventors of cinema.

Christmas in my home ! Greetings to all. Most of you celebrated Christmas in peace and joy. My Christmas is January 7th. Since I'll be in a hurry. I need to buy everything and save it. I decided to write you an article about how Christmas is celebrated in my home. Orthodox believers, who respect the Julian calendar, celebrate Christmas on January 7, the holiday of the whole family, which is then gathered. Many customs have remained to this day, only slightly adapted to the modern way of life. Christmas Eve The day before Christmas, January 6, is called Christmas Day. It got its name because Christmas Eve is cut that day and brought into the house. The Christmas celebration is already starting with this day. Women in the house knead Christmas cookies, cakes, prepare the table for Christmas. N Christmas Day is fasted. This is my table for Christmas Day. The picture is from last year, but that's how I prepare it every year. Fish, baklava, potato salad, risotto with mushrooms, salty balls with flour and sunflower seeds, sesame seeds. There is always fresh and dried fruit. After Christmas Eve, straw is brought into the house. The housewife puts various sweets, small gifts and toys in the straw under the table, where dinner is served, which the children look for and drink like chickens. The straw symbolizes the straw in the cave where Christ was born. On Christmas morning, before dawn, all the bells in the Orthodox churches ring, all the householders wear the most solemn costume, and go to church for the morning and Christmas liturgy. On Christmas, early in the morning, a special guest comes to the house, who usually agrees with the host, and it can also be a random passer-by. He is especially welcomed into the house and is called a layman. The hostess serves the position and gives him a suitable gift. It is believed that he is the person who brings happiness to the house on Christmas, and for the whole next year. This is my position. We decorated it with gifts, that's the custom. Early in the morning on Christmas, the housewife kneads the dough from which she bakes a cake called "garlic". A gold, silver or ordinary coin is placed in it, pricked with a Christmas tree twig from above, and this garlic has the role of a celebration cake on Christmas. When everyone is at the table, the host lights a candle, takes the censer, burns the icons, the chandeliers and everything present, hands it to a younger censer who smokes the whole house. The prayer "Our Father" is read aloud, and then the hosts break one of the family members' bread. He who gets a part of the garlic in which the coin is, according to popular belief, will be happy all year round. When the breaking of the garlic is over, the family members congratulate each other on the holiday with the words "Peace of God, Christ is born!" And sit down at the table. I hope I have presented you with a picture and a word about how Christmas is celebrated in my home. The pictures are from last year. In anticipation of the most beautiful prayer, I wish you all the best.

These plants are endangered due to climate change. Let it beb2021 be the year when humanity will "end its war against nature" Due to heating, the plants dry out, and many species disappear or look for a better environment. Every summer, the lotus blooms along the Volga Delta in Russia. In the Astrakhan Nature Reserve, the lotus is food for many animals. The reserve was formed in 1919. Today it spreads over thousands of hectares. However, the "Caspian lotus" is entered in the book of endangered species of Russia. It may seem incredible that such an exotic plant, which usually grows in tropical countries, grows in Russia. Moreover, Russia has the largest lotus field on the planet. It is located in the Astrakhan region in the delta of the Volga River, where the river separates into many canals and branches and flows into the Caspian Sea. Lotus plays an important role in human life. In traditional Tibetan, Indian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Arabic medicine medicines are made from parts of a plant (seeds, buds, pot, petals, stem, leaves, roots, pests). Also, this plant is a valuable dietary and food product. Eat fruits and roots. In China, Japan and India, starch, flour, sugar and even butter are made from seeds and rhizomes. It is believed that the lotus can clean the space around it from negative vibrations. Therefore, the plant can be grown at home. Crocus, a purple flower, grows in Himalayan Kashmir, from which saffron is made. Its growth requires warm summers and cold, humid winters, and is harvested only two weeks from late October to mid-November. Thousands of flowers produce only a few grams of saffron, and a kilogram of spices requires 150,000 flowers. Due to climate change and pollution, its cultivation has been called into question and production is declining, which will jeopardize the source of income of many families in Kashmir. The reason for the decline in production is climate change, drought-like conditions and pollution from factories in neighboring villages. Worldwide, saffron is used in the manufacture of medicines, cosmetics and in the diet. A kilo of saffron costs between $ 3,000 and $ 4,000 Climate conditions on the planet are changing faster than natural and many species are difficult to adapt to. However, when it comes to climate change, most attention is paid to the consequences they have on people - quality of life and health, but also the consequences they leave on property and the economy. Soft and sweet creature, koala ! Climate conditions on the planet are changing faster than natural and many species are difficult to adapt to. However, when it comes to climate change, most attention is paid to the consequences they have on people - quality of life and health, but also the consequences they leave on property and the economy. It is as if we forget that we are not the only inhabitants of this planet and that the changes caused, primarily by human activities, affect all living beings on Earth. In the years behind us, due to the high temperature, heat and drought, many plants died. Environmentalists claim that 2019 was the driest year in the last hundred. Due to record droughts and fires in Australia, the koala population, along with its habitat, has shrunk so much that these animals are now considered "functionally extinct". The president of the Australian Koala Foundation, Deborah Tabart, estimates that more than 1,000 koalas died from the fire and that 80 percent of their habitat was destroyed. Recent fires, along with prolonged drought and deforestation, have led to koalas becoming "functionally extinct," according to experts. Deforestation and fires are destroying the koala’s main food source, the eucalyptus tree. An adult koala eats up to two kilograms of eucalyptus leaves a day as the main ingredient in the diet. It takes several months for eucalyptus plants to recover after a fire, which does not leave a suitable source of food for koalas, so many die of starvation. Port Macquarie Koala Hospital is collecting donations to help treat injured koalas. To date, 1.33 million Australian dollars have been raised from over 30,000 donors. Part of their effort is to set up drinking stations for koalas in areas devastated by fires. The funds will also be used for the "Koala Arch", ie a shelter for koalas injured in fires. Koalas and humans, believe it or not, have one thing in common, which you will surely be surprised by. Namely, these cute teddy bears, who spend most of their lives peacefully chewing eucalyptus leaves, have fingerprints, which are completely equal to human ones. "Dermatoglyphs" (fingerprints) are best explained as a way to adapt to a life that involves daily climbing tall vertical trees and taking food in your hands. This marsupial herbivore inhabits the warm coastal areas of eastern and southern Australia. Although most people think that these are small bears, they are not bears, but small baggers. The word "koala" in the Aboriginal language (indigenous tribes that inhabited the area of Australia), in free translation means "without water". This is due to the fact that koalas almost never, that is, very often drink water, which they make up from the juicy leaves of eucalyptus. Thanks to their slowed metabolism, which keeps food in the digestive tract for a long time, they are able to spend up to 20 hours a day sleeping. When they are born, they weigh barely 300 grams, have no hair and are blind. Only after 22 weeks do they get out of their mother's bag and climb on her back, where they stay until they become independent. An adult koala weighs about 8 pounds. In the small pockets they have in their mouth, they keep the leaves, which I will chew only later, after the meal, when they get hungry again. Source and photos Google.com

"Tomorrow is a new day, tomorrow will be better" Happy New Year The beginning of each year is tied to new hopes and expectations and almost everyone would like to leave behind what was ugly and unpleasant from the old year. Some things are good to leave in the past, and if possible to forget. Enter the New Year with a pure heart, not burdened with bad experiences. Although 2020 was one of the worst years for all of us, there was certainly something beautiful in all of that. Remember those moments and give thanks for them. Erase those ugly events, difficult moments, pack them up and throw them away forever where you know they won't challenge anyone, and open your soul to the one that will give you a heart in the palm of your hand and live with the knowledge that what is written here is not valid for today , not tomorrow, but as long as you want and believe in everything beautiful. I want humanity to finally understand that we have only one life and to learn - what you don't want for yourself doesn't do for others! We cannot live without each other, let's at least help with love and the little things that life means to overcome this great evil… I want every new day to be filled with peace, bliss and positive thoughts. May it be happy and healthy to all of us! I remembered the movie "Gone with the Wind" when Vivian Lee uttered a sentence in the difficult moments of her life: "Tomorrow is a new day, tomorrow will be better". That's what I think, because after the rain, the sun always comes.

Gift giving time The New Year is approaching, the time of giving. Most people want to express love and gratitude by giving gifts, but the feeling of togetherness and giving should be nurtured throughout the year, and not just during the holidays. Giving is a special kind of joy and it does not have to have material value. Every day we have many opportunities to give someone a smile, support, a gesture of attention, a nice word. This is my home. My modest Christmas tree, but very dear to me. We are a family of five, multigenerational. The oldest member of my family is my mom. She is 77 years old. The youngest is my daughter. She is 20 years old. We all live together in the same house and we are very harmonious. New Year's holidays, celebrations and holidays around Christmas are very important for all family members. Then everyone gathers, socializes, gets to know each other better and it is a time of joy. Our family has a secret Santa Claus. And if we are all adults, we look forward to gifts. A week before the holiday, we pull out the papers with the name and each of us buys a gift for the one he pulled out. Here we have all fulfilled our promise. Gifts are under the Christmas tree. Each of us packed a gift, wrote the name and put it under the Christmas tree. Opening of the gift tomorrow. I'm really happy. I am still a child at heart. A gift is the attention, affection, and emotional connection between the giver and the giver. As a gift, I am sending you Love wrapped in Sincerity, with a bow of Beautiful Wishes. May she give you Happiness and Security for the rest of her life. Happy New Year!

Unusual stories about identical twins ! There are two types of twins. Identical twins are formed when one, already fertilized egg cell divides into two identical parts and each part further develops independently. Then two children are born who are of the same sex and have identical genetic material. Identical twins are formed from two separate, individually fertilized eggs. They can be of the same or different sex, and their genetic material is as similar as that of any pair of siblings. For two couples in Canada, the power of DNA to influence behavior is much more than an academic question. Since 2000, they have been raising two sisters, identical twins, 440 kilometers apart, in a kind of random scientific experiment. Lynette and Mike Shaw met Alison and Kirk McLeod at the same adoption agency. The Shaws live in Amherstburg, a rural community near Windsor, Ontario, and the McLeods live in Sutton, a suburb near Toronto. In February 2000, they traveled together to Chengzhou, a city in the Chinese province of Hunan, with a small group of potential parents. As soon as they saw the babies they were going to adopt, they immediately noticed that they were twins. "When they took them down the elevator, we looked at our daughter and the other baby and I thought, 'Oh, they're exactly the same,'" Mike says. "They even cried the same thing. And they laughed the same way. You really couldn't tell one apart," Lynette recalls. Before going to China, the couples saw photos of babies who were six months old at the time and wondered if they might be sisters. However, the representatives of the orphanage told them that the babies were not related, although he wrote the same date of birth in the card. In any case, they were told that babies could not be adopted together in the same family. If the Shaws and McLeods had not adopted them, the babies would have been returned to the orphanage and given to other families for adoption. Under such circumstances, the couples feared that the girls might be separated forever. So they took them and took them home to Canada, determined to do what was best, even if they raised identical twin sisters separately. “The shows are like family to us now,” Kirk says. "We try to see each other as often as we can." The McLeods drive four hours to Amherstburg or the Shaws travel to Saton every six to eight weeks. As soon as the McLeod car stops in front of the Shaw house, Lily jumps out of the back seat and rushes into the arms of her sister Jillian. They are now 12 years old, both have an honest facial expression and black shoulder-length hair, the only thing is that Jillian has recently been wearing a denture. “They’re sisters all the way through,” Lynette says, looking at them. "They're like an egg to an egg." The Shaws and McLeods are aware of how rare their situation is. There are only a few more cases, also with children adopted in Asia, where the twins are consciously raised separately. Their daughters, it seems, accept that as something normal. “I don’t mind, nor am I happy,” Lily says. "The only thing is that sometimes, if we lived closer, we could sleep with each other." “Yeah, that would be great,” Jillian agrees. Since they remained in close contact, the parents together closely followed every step in the development of the twins. For example, both girls made their first steps on the same day, at the age of 14 months - one in Sutton, the other in Amherstburg. Both had holes in their teeth and amblyopia in one eye, the so-called lazy eye. And both, as soon as they walked, were lively and active. "Even when she was two years old, Jillian played hockey with older children," says Mike. "Sometimes she would make them cry." As they grew up, Lily seemed to be more of an artist and Jillian a sports type, probably influenced by the Shaw's other children, Heather and Eric, who were both athletes. "But then Lily joined a local athletics club and won the 100-meter dash," says Kirk. "And then I realized how much stronger genes are than upbringing." Josh, Jeremy, Brittany and Briana first met at the Twins Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio, 2018. Less than a year later, Josh and Jeremy proposed to the sisters at Twin Lakes State Park in Virginia. Not surprisingly, their wedding was themed with the title ‘Twice Upon a Time’, and they were married by priests who are also idetic twins. And that's not the end of the coincidences, because four months ago, both couples announced together that they were expecting their first child. Although the coronavirus pandemic did not bring anything nice to most people, young parents from Raipur in central India decided to name their twins born during the pandemic Corona and Covid. Source and photos Google.com Mother Preti Verma (27) told the Hindustan Times that they chose the names to remind them of the difficult circumstances in which they had two healthy children.

Today an earthquake near me ! An earthquake is a sudden and strong short-term tremor of certain parts of the Earth's crust that occurs due to the movement of lithospheric plates along fault lines. It is a very common occurrence, but most earthquakes are of low intensity and occur on relatively small areas of land or ocean floor. Minor earthquakes also occur as a result of volcanic eruptions, cave collapses or strong explosions. If an earthquake occurs at the bottom of the sea, huge destructive sea waves are formed which crash on the shores with great force, destroying everything in front of them - these waves are called tsunamis. The point in the Earth's interior that represents the epicenter of the earthquake and where the most energy is released is called the hypocenter (usually located at a depth of about 70 km). The point directly above the hypocenter on the surface of the Earth where the earthquake is most strongly felt is called the epicenter. The earthquake spreads in waves on all sides, and the closed curved lines that connect the places where the earthquake was equally felt on the geological maps are called isoseists. Earthquakes according to the method of occurrence can be: 1) natural - they can be spontaneous (caused by the movement of lithospheric plates, so they are also called tectonic) and caused (volcanic, caused by strong eruptions, and urvinic, caused by the collapse of arches and walls of large caves and underground rooms), 2) artificial (anthropogenic) - they occur due to human action on the natural environment (formation of large artificial accumulation lakes, pumping water into deep wells for the needs of exploitation of geothermal energy, etc.). The largest number of earthquakes is related to the boundaries of lithosphere plates, and the strongest earthquakes occur in the areas of plate confrontation, in the space where one plate is underlined under another. These areas are also called seismic areas. The areas where the most earthquakes occur are the Pacific Fire Belt (53% of the total) and the Mediterranean-Alpine-Himalayan (41% of the total). The countries with the most earthquakes are Chile, Japan and Indonesia. Earthquake strength measurement The strength of an earthquake depends on several factors, such as the amount of energy released, the structure of the Earth's crust, and the depth of the hypocenter. An instrument that measures its strength is called a seismograph. It is measured by two scales - Mercalli's and Richter's. The Mercalli scale is named after the Italian scientist and priest Giuseppe Mercalli (1850–1914), and is based on the devastating effects of earthquakes on the Earth's surface. It is a descriptive scale that has a power classification of 1 to 12 degrees, which describes the degree of surface damage. The intensity of the earthquake is recorded on a scale based on a qualitative measurement (eg “barely sensitive” or “catastrophically destructive”) of damage to the terrain and buildings at each given location. In general, the intensity of an earthquake decreases in proportion to its distance from the epicenter, but other factors, including surface geology, can significantly affect its consequences. The Richter scale, a widely used measure of earthquake strength, introduced by seismologists Beno Gutenberg (1889–1960) and Charles F. Richter (1900–1985) in 1935, categorizes earthquakes based on their magnitude. Magnitude is a unit of measure of the amplitude and amount of energy released in the hypocenter. It is, in essence, a logarithmic scale with a base of 10, so that each increase in one unit represents a tenfold increase in strength (amplitude of seismic waves). Strength is then translated into released energy. Earthquakes weaker than those originally selected to determine the zero value of magnitude are represented by negative values. This scale theoretically does not have an upper limit, but since the strongest recorded earthquakes did not exceed the value of 9 degrees, it is usually expressed in the range of 1 to 9 degrees. The current magnitude scale, in use since 1993, is more accurate for stronger earthquakes; it takes into account the slippage of the faults, the size of the cracked surface and the nature of the cracked materials. The science that deals with earthquakes is called seismology, but despite constant progress and new knowledge, it cannot predict their occurrence. Earthquake magnitude: 6.4 Affected countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and Austria 4 km from Petrinja, Croatia The first reports show that there are injured and that the material damage is great. According to Index, the earthquake was felt in Zagreb, Rijeka, Vukovar, Split. According to the EMSC, the epicenter was 46 kilometers southeast of Zagreb, around Petrinja. The mayor of Petrinja, Darinko Dumbović, told H1 that "half of the city was destroyed" and that it is not yet known if there are any dead. According to index.hr, the police called on the citizens to go out into the open. "We call on the citizens, if they are able, to go out into the open and move away from buildings that are in danger of collapsing." People on higher floors should look to carry the wall, "the police announced. They also state that there are a lot of demolished houses. "We managed to pull out one child, he was in the car, everything collapsed, the owner is inside, but he is not answering," the young man told N1. "It's hard, I heard that the kindergarten collapsed, there were no children in the kindergarten, we don't know if we have any dead," says another.

Gender change Unlike some previous decades and years, transgenderism and gender reassignment are no longer so taboo in the world and today we can hear almost every day about transgender people who, unlike in the past, are not afraid to say clearly and loudly who and how they are. they feel. It is interesting that there is a large number of public figures who have openly acknowledged their transgenderism and the fact that they have changed their gender to their fans and the public. Is it a boy or a girl? ”, Is usually the first question that future parents hear when they announce the news of the arrival of a new family member. "I'm a girl" and "I'm a boy" is one of the first things we learn about ourselves growing up. However, what happens to those children that we think are of a certain gender, and they tell us differently while growing up? Until recently, medicine talked about the existence of two sexes - male and female, which are assigned to a baby at birth based on the appearance of her genitals. Based on gender, we assume which person’s gender is. Gender is one of the aspects of our identity and is defined as a person's inner experience of being a man or a woman. Gender identity occurs in early childhood, around the third year of life. In most people, gender and gender match, while in some they differ and we call these people trans or transgender people. It's hard to keep your peace of mind if you're constantly worried about what might happen to you if someone who doesn't need to find out you're trans. Trans people, just like any other person, need support, acceptance and understanding for a dignified life: from family, through peers, school, workplace, all the way to that abstract society that we all make, as well as the knowledge that no one wants them. attacks on the street because they "changed gender" or because it is not clear to the attacker "whether it is a young man or a girl". Angela Ponz (26) was born as a boy, and now she is the first transgender person to compete in the Miss World pageant. She is committed to respecting diversity. “My goal is to be a spokesperson for inclusion, appreciation and respect for diversity, not just for LBGTQ communities, but for the whole world,” Angela said. In Spain, five years ago, the ban on the competition of transgender people in choosing beauty was lifted, and now the Miss of that country has become a woman who was born as a man. By the way, this is not her first choice of beauty, she was born as a boy in Seville, and at one time, as a representative of the province of Cadiz, she competed in the Miss Spain pageant. Just a few years earlier, a member of the Kardashian / Jenner reality family, Caitlin Jenner, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, admitted she was transgender. In an emotional video interview at the time and on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine, Caitlin said she had been "thinking about this day since she was born." Her recognition caused a storm in the American and world public. Bruce Jenner, 65, the stepfather of the most famous starlet Kim Kardashian, publicly revealed his body for the first time since he changed gender and officially became a woman. The former Olympic champion proudly posed for Venity Fair magazine, and his new identity was the main topic at the fashion awards. CFDA award in New York, where Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were among others. The sexy starlet said that she was delighted with her stepfather's transformation and that she supported him in everything. Surgical interventions in the process of gender adjustment are often the last step that some trans * people decide on in their transition. While many trans * people do not decide to take this step at all, but express their gender identity without surgery, for some trans * people these interventions are a necessity in order to function in accordance with their identity.

And we can be the guardians of the planet Every year, Earth Day is celebrated around the world on April 22 in order to draw public attention to the importance of nature conservation, protection and prevention of negative impacts on the environment and the entire planet. This year is also a small jubilee: 50 years since it was celebrated. Earth Day was first marked on April 22, 1970. On that day, 20 million Americans (which was 10% of the American population at the time) protested, drawing attention to environmental pollution and stating the need for a healthy and self-sustaining environment. The protests were organized, independently of each other, by US Senator Gaylord Nelson from Wisconsin and activist John McConnell. The senator witnessed a huge oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969. Astonished by the extent of the pollution that arose at that time and the desire not to repeat such things, he came up with the idea to transfer the energy of student anti-war movements, which were very topical at the time, and draw attention to environmental problems. It may be hard to believe today that the protests had to draw attention to the problem of soil, water and air pollution, but half a century ago, people's consciousness was just waking up on that issue. Over time, an increasing number of people participated in the activities of the movement, so that in 1990 it became the most massive global movement covering 192 countries. There are many reasons why we should ask ourselves how we can positively affect our environment and our home, planet Earth. What can an individual do? Start by changing small things that will, in turn, bring much greater benefits. These are some small things we can all do. - Replace classic bulbs with energy-saving CFL bulbs. This way you will save 66% of energy, plus you will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. - Raise the blinds, light helps to heat your apartment, and in this way you will save 10% of energy. -Separate kitchen waste. Take it for recycling, but pay attention to one more thing - don't throw away food! -Use natural materials .Cotton, wool or bamboo materials, not synthetics. -Take the water while brushing your teeth or soaping yourself, boil the water so that you do not waste it unnecessarily. On average, 182 liters of water are consumed if you do not turn on the tap regularly. - Plant plants common to your area. Plant or nurture plants that have a natural habitat in your garden, as this protects the local environment. We in our settlement take care of the environment. There are people who throw garbage everywhere ... when the parks get dirty a couple of families with children go to work and clean everything up. This is how we teach children to take care of their environment. Every day is a day of small decisions that will mean a lot to you and future generations! The average temperature on the planet Earth has increased in the past 100 years as a result of changes in the activity of the Sun and human activity on Earth. Primarily due to the greenhouse effect, which occurs due to the large emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere. The heat coming from the Sun falls on the Earth, is reflected from there and for the most part goes far from the Earth. However, an atmospheric envelope full of harmful gases retains solar heat, just as a greenhouse does. The result is an increase in temperature on Earth. This vertical garden with 85,000 plants produces enough oxygen for over 3,000 people. Santalaia is a building in the capital of Colombia that everyone who loves nature would like to live in. Namely, this facility is surrounded by a vertical garden of 3,100 square meters, whose lush vegetation is a real natural air filter that can purify more than 2,000 tons of harmful gases and capture more than 400 kilograms of dust per year. This system consists of a series of pillars where each of them has its own vegetative cover. In addition to a large number of common plants used in the formation of vertical facades, endemic species have also been used to enhance biodiversity. Source and photos Google.com

The life of Jovanka Broz Jovanka Budisavaljević, a Serb from the village of Pećane, was born on the territory of today's Croatia on December 7, 1924. The Budisavljević family was very respectable in Lika, and her cousin was also the scientist Nikola Tesla. She joined the Partisans at the age of 17 and went to fight against the Nazi occupier. During the war, she was wounded twice, and she also contracted typhus. Then she lost her father and two brothers, and the younger sisters ended up in an orphanage. At the age of 21, she received two Orders for Courage, and she is also the bearer of the Partisan Memorial in 1941. She met Josip Broz Tito during the German landing on Drvar in 1944. After the end of the Second World War in 1946, she was transferred to the Marshal's Office - the office of Josip Broz, and later became Tito's personal secretary. That's where love was born. In 1952, she became Broz's third wife, but also the first "first lady". Jovanka was 28 at the time, and Tito was 60. The announcement of their marriage immediately won over the media. In Rome and Opatija, she learned about protocol meetings. His Ličanka was described as an enchanting brunette, with big eyes and lush hair. By her appearance, Jovanka was his ideal partner. She had to make up for the lack of education quickly after her marriage, so Tito sent her to Opatija and Rome. That is how Jovanka learned how to behave in protocol meetings and how to dress. For her, a professor even came from Russia who taught her Russian, and she taught French and English at the same time. Soon, Jovanka transformed from a soldier into a noble woman. She became the first lady in every sense of the word. Jovanka became what most of the older generations remember - richly dressed, decorated, smiling, with a high bun on her head, ready to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world's greatest ladies of that time. She was adorned with innate spiritual and physical beauty, wit, maximum sacrifice, a dignified phenomenon on all occasions, which fascinated foreign statesmen and their wives, causing admiration among them. She knew how to respect foreign statesmen. They give her some material with their traditional ethno motifs, the next time Jovanka appears in a dress made of that material. She had the ability to do some non-verbal diplomacy. there were also those who claimed that Jovanka's influence went far beyond receiving and smiling in front of the camera. It was claimed that she had state ambitions, that she was plotting, that she was a Soviet agent, that she participated in a conspiracy against Aleksandar Ranković, that she planned a coup and was preparing to become "Tito after Tito" . Already during 1975, Jovanka was absent from some trips. In the same year, Tito moved to Beli dvor without her, while she stayed at Užička 15. It was a public secret that the first lady and the president did not get along well and that quarrels were commonplace. However, there was silence about that, and a formal divorce never took place. For the last three years of Tito's life, Jovanka did not see him. However, only two months after his death, she was, with the seizure of documents and belongings, evicted from the residence. And then everyone forgot about the former first lady of the state, who soon fell apart in a bloody war… Her appearances in public were reduced to visits to the House of Flowers on the anniversary of Tito's death. For many years, Jovanka Broz lived in unbearable conditions. Without any documents, she lived in a house without heating, where the roof is leaking, and the electricity often goes out. Rasim Ljajic, the then minister, reacted to media reports that there is no country in the world where the former president's wife is treated like that, but offers for hospitality and help came from the entire former state and for a moment reunited the divided peoples. Towards the end of her life, Jovanka Broz received documents again - first a health card, then an ID card and a passport. Already old and ill, she thanked the state for its "care" and continued to live in seclusion. It was from the house where she was first detained, and then locked herself up, that she was transported to the hospital at the end of the summer of 2013, where she died. At her own request, she was buried in the House of Flowers on October 26, 2013. Source and photos Google.com

One ordinary glass box changed the planet ! The glass box, designed during the 1930s as a clever invention that keeps plants alive during long journeys, revolutionized botany. Many years later, that glass box could have huge consequences for the entire living world of the planet Earth. The so-called "ward boxes" were invented by Nathaniel Begshaw Ward, a doctor from the East End in London, during the previous decade, ie during the 1930s. He was interested in ferns, but he did not manage to grow them in the polluted city air. Ward's invention was simple, and from today's perspective, obvious. Glass, wood, putty and paint - in fact, it was a sealed miniature greenhouse. Light could enter it, while soot and smoke did not. Also, moisture remained in it, so watering the plants was not necessary. His fern thrived great. Ward soon realized that he had found a possible solution to a problem that had long plagued plant collectors - how to keep plants alive during long sea voyages. Ward did an experiment and organized the shipment of two boxes of plants to Australia. A few months later, he received a letter from the captain of the ship in which he "heartily congratulated" him. The fern was mostly "alive and lush," while the grass "tried to push the lid off the box." When the ship returned, Ward's chests were full of Australian plants, which were also perfectly healthy. He thought that it would be good for people, like ferns, to get away from the polluted London air. He imagined large sealed greenhouses in which people could recover from smallpox or eczema. He did not foresee that his chests would bring great changes in agriculture, politics and trade on a global scale. The Cavendish banana variety has spread around the world thanks to Word boxes, a banana variety sold in stores today. In addition, Word boxes have destroyed the rubber industry in Brazil. Due to high prices, the UK Foreign Office has sent an enterprising amateur botanist to the Amazon to smuggle a small amount of rubber seeds. They germinated in the garden of Kyu gardens and the young were sent to East Asia. This resulted in colonial plantations with which Brazil could not compete. Word boxes have also helped stop China's dominance in the tea market. Thanks to Word boxes, quinine wood has been transported from South America to India and Sri Lanka. Its bark is used to make quinine, a medicine against malaria. Due to the discovery of quinine, Europeans were less afraid to travel to the tropics. Some historians believe that Africa would not have been colonized if it had not happened. Have you ever found yourself in a greenhouse or greenhouse? If so, you have probably noticed that the temperature in one such object is several degrees higher than outside. Do you know why this is so? The energy that the Earth receives from the Sun mostly consists of visible and ultra-violet radiation of the electromagnetic spectrum. The waves of this type of radiation are able to penetrate unhindered through the walls of the greenhouse all the way to the ground. There, the conversion of the matured energy is performed and it is calculated from the ground in the form of long-wave infra-red radiation, ie thermal energy. Greenhouse gases are most responsible for the favorable temperature characteristics of our planet. However, from the beginning of the industrial revolution at the end of the 18th century until today's modern age, the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has multiplied. This, of course, means that thermal energy stays in the Earth's atmosphere for much longer. The global temperature of the planet is elevated, with a tendency for further growth, which is slowly creating conditions that will not affect most living beings on Earth. For or against the vaccine? Before vaccines were made, the world was a dangerous place to live. Millions of people have died each year from preventable diseases today. The Chinese were the first to discover an early form of vaccination in the 10th century: "smallpox" was the exposure of healthy people to wounds and scabies caused by disease to build immunity. Smallpox is a highly contagious disease that kills 30 percent of those infected. survivors, often left scars on the body or went blind. In 1796, Dr. Jenner performed an experiment on eight-year-old James Phipps. He injected pus into the boy's blood, and his body soon developed symptoms. When Phipps recovered, Jenner injected the smallpox virus into him, but the boy remained healthy because he built up immunity. When the results were published in 1798, the word vaccine was coined from the Latin word vaca, which means cow. In the era before vaccines, surviving childhood was a real feat! At that time, in almost all parts of the world, there were frequent epidemics of numerous infectious diseases. Babies could come into contact with the pathogens several times a month, and their immature immune system was not able to fight these diseases. The experience of losing a baby for the mothers of that time was a common occurrence, they lived in the hope that at least one of the many children born would survive the first years of life. Many diseases from this period are almost unknown to modern societies, and their consequences and the scale they had today we can not even imagine. Typhus and cholera are almost eliminated today, primarily due to the availability of clean, sanitary water, scarlet fever is prevented by modern antibiotic therapy. Many other infectious diseases that used to die en masse have been successfully controlled and kept under control by the use of vaccines. Unfortunately, in some parts of the world, where vaccines are not available, these diseases are still a part of everyday life, and children still die from them. Vaccines are suspicious from the moment they are made. In the past, people were skeptical for religious reasons because they thought vaccination was unclean. Across Britain in 1800, so-called anti-vaccination groups began to operate, seeking alternative measures to fight disease, such as isolation. The first group against vaccination was introduced in the United States after the visit of the British activist against vaccination William Thebes in 1870. One of the key figures in the anti-vaccination movement lately is Andrew Wakefield. In 1998, he published a report that falsely linked autism and intestinal disease to the MMR vaccine. The MMR vaccine is a trivalent vaccine given to young children to fight smallpox, mumps and rubella. Although his work has been discredited and Wefield no longer has a license to practice medicine, there has been a drop in the number of vaccinated children in the UK, due to his claims. In 2004 alone, 100,000 fewer children received the MMR vaccine in the UK, leading to an increase in the number of cases. When a large part of the population is vaccinated, it helps prevent the spread of the disease, which in turn provides protection to those who do not have immunity or who cannot be vaccinated for some reason. This is called collective immunity and when it is compromised, there is a risk to the general population. The percentage of people who need to be vaccinated to maintain collective immunity varies from disease to disease. The Covid pandemic has been raging around the world for a year now. The vaccine was finally found. Again we have conflicts of opinion. Do you get the vaccine or not? The latest data from Pfizer and Biontek suggest that the vaccine is effective in 95 percent of cases, based on 170 cases of Kovid-19 development in volunteers. The rest of the cases were in the placebo group that received a fake injection. Although full test data has yet to be released, companies say there have been no serious security issues. But they noticed headaches and fatigue in about 2 percent of the volunteers who were given the vaccine.
