Britain is in contact with the United States to form a club of ten countries that can work on developing its own technology from the fifth generation in order to reduce dependence on the Chinese company Huawei, according to the newspaper "The Times" on Friday.
The proposal comes ahead of a Group of Seven summit that US President Donald Trump hopes to host next month.
"We are looking for new parties entering the market to diversify it," a spokesman for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Friday. "This is something we have talked about with our allies, including the United States."
Despite repeated US warnings, the US government allowed Huawei to build 35 percent of the infrastructure required to deploy a new 5G network in the country.
And the Times said that Britain proposes, after its deteriorating relations with China, the establishment of a club of ten democracies that includes members from the Group of Seven, South Korea and India.
The only two companies currently in Europe that are able to supply equipment for the fifth generation are the Finnish company Nokia and the Swedish company Ericsson.
