The proportion of people who want to have children has decreased at a young age. But is this decision as good for children as it seems at first glance? Scientists from different countries have shown great interest in this question, and have conducted extensive studies on assessing children's intelligence regarding the age of their parents and some other factors.

Here we present four factors that affect the intelligence of the child while he is in the womb, according to the Brightside website:

1- Age of father

The number of genetic mutations (changes in the genetic material) is directly related to cognitive abilities. The more mutations, the less likely a person will develop a normal way of thinking. The older the man, the greater the number of mutations he transmits to his children.

Therefore, this matter is considered bad for children if the father is old, as the risk of a child's intelligence decreases.

On the contrary, the situation is somewhat different when it comes to the age of the mother, the older the woman, the more intelligent her future child.

2- The mother was exposed to anxiety during pregnancy

Johns Hopkins University researchers conducted a study of pregnant women, each with a college degree and had good physical and mental health.

Experts estimated women's stress levels and their children's cognitive abilities during pregnancy and also when children reached the age of two. The researchers found that children whose mothers had low or moderate levels of stress were more developed mentally and physically. If the woman was suffering from severe stress, then her child was less developed compared to the rest of the children.

3- Lead

The presence of high levels of lead in the air negatively affects the intelligence of the child, as it is not recommended that pregnant women live in houses that contain old tubes or painted walls from about 20 years.

4- The thyroid gland of the mother

Some experts stress the need for a thyroid examination before pregnancy. If the thyroid gland does not work properly, the child's IQ is likely to be lower.
