The city, which is adorned with the attribute of a "city of parks", is proud of Vrbanić's park, which was opened to the public in 1896, and in its landscape-form sense is probably the most valuable achievement.
The initiative for arranging this park, designed to represent a small open-air botanical garden, was given by the "Society for the Beautification of the City", and was accepted by the then mayor and famous Karlovac pharmacist Josip Vrbanić.
The park is located in the southeastern part of the city, between the river Korana and Karlovac's "Zvijezda" , and is part of the famous recreational part located on the left bank of the Korana. Through his efforts, Vrbanić arranges plantations of trees and ornamental plants, the seedlings of which he procures from the Archbishop's Garden, Vranyczany's nursery in Dubovac, and Trieste and Vienna.
The park is divided into three parts, the English part of the park, the central part decorated in the French style, and the third part which consists of coniferous spruce and fir.
Many terracotta statues were placed in the park, which had their place there until the First World War. For a time, exhibitions of sculptures were held in the open air, a small zoo was arranged, and peacocks walked through the Park.
Today, the park is a favorite gathering place of many Karlovac residents and visitors who enjoy the shade of century-old trees.
