The upper stretch of the Kupa River, which we share with the neighboring municipalities of Brod Moravice and Čabar, forms the northern part of an area known as the Kupa (or Brod) Valley. The lowest points of this stretch of the Kupa are located about 220 m above sea level, while the adjacent relief of the Risnjak-Drgomalj group reaches an average height of between 800 and 1000 m. It is interesting to note that the valley of the Kupa, low and deep, inserts itself like a hot wedge into the cold Gorski Kotar, making it possible to cultivate agricultural crops such as corn and even some vines, albeit in a small space. But what the elders are proud of are the old orchards:

The Kupa and its tributaries, in particular the Kupica, represent a paradise for sport fishing (trout, grayling, chub), while mountaineers and hikers will have a large part of the valley at their disposal thanks to the existence of the Alpine Mountain Route (GPP - Goranski planinarski put). From a hydromorphological point of view, the Kupa valley is a gorge with small valleys in which picturesque villages have sprung up, among which Brod na Kupi dominates: a larger settlement, border crossing and crossroads between the roads connecting Croatia and neighboring Slovenia.

Brod na Kupi represents the Brod valley in miniature. It is a settlement that boasts an extraordinary cultural and historical heritage. The old castle-palace Zrinski is impressive, which dominates the center of the settlement and which today houses a permanent exhibition on hunting, forestry and fishing. In Brod na Kupi you can choose one of the many ways to discover the Kupa River: canoeing, rafting or swimming. You can also enjoy a natural hydromassage offered by the small rapids of the Kupa, on Pritiske beach near Gusti Laz, or buy a fishing license and indulge in sport fishing or fly fishing, or even taste the gastronomic delicacies of the hotel Tips.

The upper stretch of the Kupa River, known as the Valley of the Butterflies, hides an area of high ecological value, inhabited by various species of butterflies and moths. Due to its geographical isolation, Croatian butterfly fauna is richer than two endemic subspecies. Visit the most characteristic valley in Croatia, from the first days of spring to the beginning of autumn.
