Four rivers

Karlovac is a city on four rivers. Logically, Karlovac is also a city of bridges. Further analysis will lead you to the conclusion that Karlovac is also a city of boats. And fog, a fisherman, a fish, a frog and a few mosquitoes. Everything in the city is connected to the rivers, the freshwater aquarium Aquatika, romantic walks along the coast and drinking water. We name everything we can by the rivers, kindergartens, sports clubs, restaurants and our own children. 

For reasons unknown to us, Mother Nature decided to place all the surplus rivers she had left right here. For reasons known to us, someone wise remembered to put the city right on those four rivers. And here we are, in the water embrace of our four beauties. How many times have we said four so far? Four. 

Every citizen of Karlovac has their favorite river. And each river has its own special shade of color. And every visitor to the city will fall in love with one of them. Or in everything? Four.

The Kupa River is the longest, it springs in the heart of the Risnjak National Park and is influenced by the remaining three Karlovac rivers. Sometimes very fickle, mostly calm and quiet, it becomes dangerous when angry. So he washed our streets and hired us to build an embankment. The only mystery is why the river that springs only 30 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea flows in the opposite direction like no other river in the world?

The Korana River is special because we cannot take you to its source. She has no source. It is formed as a continuation of Plitvice Lakes, flows through a canyon forming many waterfalls and calms down by arriving in Karlovac. Like the Kupa, it flows through almost the very center of the city. Due to the unusual combination of dissolved minerals, the water is healing, so in history it had a spa built. The most popular is the river for swimming and enjoyment, with the arranged Fogin bathing area.

The Mrežnica River has two springs, unlike the Korana which has none. Those Karlovac rivers are strange. The retina is known for its travertine barriers and waterfalls. By careful counting we found that there were exactly countless of them. The best way to get to know her is by kayaking.   

The river Dobra has a source, and two more. And a few different names upstairs. In Ogulin, it turns into an abyss in Đulin's abyss. Then it springs again, rushes through the canyon, crashes over the hydroelectric power plant, fills the accumulation lakes, spins the old mills and finally slowly flows into the Cup.
