Australian biotechnology company Ena Respiratory reported today that the nasal spray it is developing, and its purpose is to improve the human immune system as part of the fight against colds and flu, has significantly reduced the level of the virus that causes covid-19.
The company said in a statement that this was shown by the results of a recent study conducted on animals,
A study conducted under the auspices of the Public Health Agency of England was done on ferrets and showed that a product called INNA-051, which could be used as a supplement to the vaccine, reduced the level of the virus that causes covid-19 by up to 96 per cent.
The company announced that it will be ready to test INNA-051 on humans in just under four months, and this must be preceded by regulatory approval. $ 8.24 million was invested in the development of the spray.
Investors include Brandon Capital Ltd, the Australian Government, pension funds and biotech giant CSL Ltd CSL.AX.
Several companies around the world are working on developing a coronavirus vaccine. Australia has struck deals with some pharmaceutical companies to invest billions in potential vaccines for covid-19, which has killed nearly a million people worldwide so far.
There have been 875 deaths and just over 27,000 coronavirus infections in Australia so far, far fewer than in other developed countries.
More than 32.9 million cases of the infection have been officially diagnosed worldwide, of which at least 22.5 million have been cured to date.
The World Health Organization has expressed concern that a pandemic could kill two million people if the world no longer works to curb the spread of the virus, and calls for a fair distribution of future vaccines.
I'm a little scared of the vaccine, and this spray seems like a better solution if the results of the research are presented as positive.
