  1. EL CANTO DEL VIAJERO - when Rizal was in Dapitan, he offered his services as a military doctor in Cuba, which was then in the throes of revolution and is experiencing yellow fever epidemic. He felt hopeless when he didn't receive an immediate reply to his request. But later after almost a year of hopeless waiting, a letter came and stated that his request to be a military doctor in Cuba was granted. Once more, he was going to travel to Europe then to Cuba. It was this joyous thought of resuming his travels that he wrote his heartwarming poem EL CANTO DEL VIAJERO.

  2. A RICARDO CANCICERO- Rizal lived in the house of the captain. Because of his respect and admiration for the man, Rizal wrote the poem "A RICHARD CANCICERO" who became his good friend.

  3. HIMNO AL TALISAY- Rizal became a teacher in Dapitan to an all boys school. His students are still young so they still believed in ghosts. They are afraid of anything paranormal including the balete tree on which they believed to be the home of ghosts. So, in order to overcome their fear of monsters and the balete tree, Rizal challenged his students to climb the balete tree on which later on became their favorite spot for respite. Rizal wrote the HIMNO AL TALISAY for his pupils in Dapitan to sing whenever they rest under the talisay tree.

  4. MI RITERO - many critics say that this was the most profound work of our national hero. Rizal wrote this poem for his mother who was the one who encouraged him to write poetry. The poem describes the serene life of Rizal in Dapitan. It also tells how Rizal reminisced the past about his experiences with people he met during his childhood and on his travels outside his hometown. This poem also expressed his loneliness on living alone in his cabin and being away from his loved ones. Overall, the poem describes Rizal's acceptance of his destiny and how he lived an unexciting but fruitful life.

  5. MI ULTIMO ADIOS- Rizal wrote this poem the day before his execution. It is also said that this poem of his was the longest . The poem tells how beautiful the Philippines is and it also talks about how brave our national hero is for accepting his death with all bravery after fighting for freedom through his written works and now, he is glad to die in peace.
