Hasan Al Mamun, convener of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council, the main accused in the case filed against him for raping a Dhaka University student, has been temporarily relieved of his duties.

Former VP of Dhaka University Central Student Parliament (Daksu) and joint convener of the organization Nurul Haque Nur confirmed the matter to NTV Online on Wednesday evening. He added that the joint convener of the organization Muhammad Rashed Khan has been given the responsibility of convener.

Later in the night, a press release was also sent to the media.

A three-member inquiry committee has been formed into the incident, the statement said. The committee includes Bin Yamin Mollah, president of the DU branch of the organization, Tareq Rahman, central joint convener and Rafia Sultana.

The committee has been asked to provide details of the incident to the Central Executive Council within 48 hours with recommendations.

In this regard, Nurul Haque Nur said, "The allegation against the convener of the organization Hassan Al Mamun is serious. That is why we all sat in the Central Council considering the ethics of the organization. It has been decided to release Mamun temporarily. We tried to contact Mamun before making this decision but he was not found. We don't know if he is in hiding or if he has been arrested. "

When asked, the new convener Rashed Khan said, "Mamun has been released so that he cannot exert any influence in the investigation." However, based on the report of the inquiry committee and the fact that the matter has gone to court, a decision will be taken on the basis of whether he is guilty or not.

A student of the Department of Islamic Studies at Dhaka University filed a case under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act and Digital Security Act with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Kotwali Police Station on Monday night. The same plaintiff had filed another case against the same accused under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act at DMP's Lalbagh police station on Sunday.

The accused in the case are Nazmul Hasan Sohag (28), joint convener of Bangladesh Student Rights Council, Hasan Al Mamun (28), Nurul Haque Nur (25), former VP of Daksh, Saiful Islam (26), joint convener of Student Rights Council, Dhaka University. Nazmul Huda (25) and Abdullahil Baki (23) are the vice presidents of the student rights council. Earlier, Hasan Al Mamun was made No. 1, Nazmul Hasan Sohag No. 2 and Nur No. 3 in Lalbagh Police Station case.
