Baimadage Angwang, a New York City police officer, has been arrested on suspicion of spying for China. Angwang, who was born in Tibet, has been accused of smuggling information about the activities of Chinese nationals in New York. This has been reported in BBC Bangla.

Angwang is accused of having contacts with two officials at the Chinese consulate. In addition to providing information about the city’s Tibetan citizens, he has tried to make their access to senior New York Police Department officials by inviting Chinese officials to various events.

According to documents filed in court, Angwang told Chinese officials that he wanted to move to a higher position in the New York police so that he could help China more and make the country brighter.

Angwang's father was a retired member of the Chinese army and a member of the Chinese Communist Party. He is a member of the Mao Party and a former Chinese government official.

New York Police Commissioner Dermat F. Shea said in a statement, ‘As stated in the federal indictment, Angwang has violated every other oath. He has broken all oaths as a U.S. citizen, as a member of the U.S. military, and as a member of the police department.

Tibet is a major Buddhist autonomous region on the outskirts of China. Beijing claims that there have been many improvements under Chinese rule. But human rights activists and Westerners claim that China continues to violate human rights by carrying out political and religious aggression there. Beijing, however, denies the allegations.
