Self-esteem is nothing more than the opinion and appreciation that we have about ourselves. In general, opinion does not always depend on what we have, know or are, but on how we accept ourselves as individuals.
What is self esteem?
Self-esteem is the perception we have about our worth, that is, how we value ourselves as people, and it is based mainly on our thoughts, sensations, feelings and experiences that we have lived.
Why is self-esteem important?
Possessing self-esteem makes us emotionally stable, since being a person who trusts, believes and has a good opinion of himself, he does not need others to approve him and prevents them from hurting him emotionally.
As we grow and live our lives, self-esteem develops, that is why it is important that from childhood the ideas of who they will be are formed and accept themselves as they are. It is in childhood where the foundations are created that will last in time.
Our own feelings are what tell us how we live our lives. People who feel loved and appreciated (people with high self-esteem) tend to socialize in a good way. These people are more likely to ask family and friends for help when they need it.
At some point in our life we have a problem with our self-esteem. The good thing is that with the passing of time the opinion or image we have about ourselves changes.
If you feel that you have problems with your self-esteem, here are some tips so that you can improve it:
To improve your self-esteem you must reflect on what your thoughts are about yourself and the other people around you. These ratings can generally have a negative or positive influence on our beliefs.
It is important to establish and maintain active social relationships, so that you can feed on activities with other people and relationships with others.
You must eliminate negative thoughts about yourself, and counteract them with positive thoughts. You should not be excessively critical of yourself, when this happens you should look for what your best qualities are.
Practicing physical activity on a regular basis, in addition to having a good diet will help you to be healthy and have a feeling of well-being, helping to increase your self-esteem.
Each of us has qualities, characteristics and strengths that identify us. When we have low self-esteem it is difficult to identify them, that is why it is important to identify those strengths since it is our strong point and it is in our strengths where we must establish ourselves to improve self-esteem.
Avoid comparing yourself to others. Focus on yourself and your qualities and abilities.
Don't be afraid to express your ideas or opinions, rather be happy to express them.
Start setting goals, you can draw up a plan with the objectives you need to carry them out and keep track of what you are accomplishing.
You also learn from mistakes so don't consider them a failure, rather you can see them as opportunities to grow and improve as a person. Nobody is perfect and we all make them, mistakes are part of learning.
Try different activities where you can test your skills and be proud of the new skills you have acquired.
Do not live clinging to the past, take impulse from it, release and let go, learn from mistakes, do not subject your self-esteem to unnecessary torture. The past is nothing more than that reflection which we observe from time to time to guide us towards the present and the future. If we want to increase our self-esteem, your gaze must be focused on what really matters: the here and now.
We cannot think that you cannot build positive self-esteem. You just have to do your part to improve. When the emotional wounds are deep and lasting over time, it is worth consulting a psychologist to help you overcome them. Psychologists or therapists serve as a guide to help people love themselves and make them see that they are unique.
