You and I, we judge others and they also judge us. Sometimes we judge with positive or non-harming intentions. But unfortunately, our judgment often comes from a negative place, with darker intentions.
I'll I ask you a question.
How many times a day are you judged by the way you dress? How many times a day do you judge someone else’s appearance or even the way they talk and walk?
Today we live in a society where sadly judging has become normal. I believe that this is the most common and usual thing that we do in our lives today without knowing how bad and unworthy trait it is to possess. Children are being compared to one another, teenagers commented and criticized for not being able to fit with others. We are judge for not doing enough, or for doing too much. And sometimes, we come across situations where we are judged by the colour of our skin and we are judge by how we look. Therefore, we worry about our appearance a lot and how people will “Think of us” so that sometimes, we spend a lot of time and money for our image to make it more fitting to others. A judgemental society is not productive and it kills the creativity in us.
But why do you think people or why do you think we judge others? It's maybe because we want to avoid that person for some reason. Maybe because they want attention from others or they want others to think that they are “cool”. You want to make fun of that person and you see their behaviour as attention seeking. If we judge a person for the second or third time, I think we have negative emotions and thoughts towards that person. Society today doesn't need those judgments because it lowers a person’s self esteem. It's like putting others down so that person can make themselves feel better about their own insecurities and it could also lead them to become depressed and commit suicide.
So an open letter to all people out there. Not everybody knows your story, let them think as they wish. Truth to be told, not everybody understands and not everybody wants to. Save your breath for those who do.
And to those who judge before walking in their shoes. You have no idea what journey they’re embarking on and No idea where they came from or how they were raised. So let us not criticize, instead try to understand. We should learn to open our heart and accept others and try to adapt them rather than changing them. No two people are alike. No two hearts beat to the same rhythm.
