After collecting the seedlings from a reputable good nursery, they should be kept in a shady place for a few days. This condition is called hardening of the seedlings. Hardening greatly reduces the risk of seedling death. In this case water should be sprinkled from time to time. However, care must be taken that the soil wheel planted at the base of the plant does not break in any way. Before planting seedlings, diseased leaves and stalks, extra roots should be pruned. Then fresh, vigorous, disease free, straight and low branched seedlings i.e. ideal seedlings should be selected. The polybag attached to the seedling should be removed in such a way that the soil wheel at the base of the seedling does not break and crumble. Curly or crooked roots should be cut around the base of the plant. Then the seedling should be gently placed in the hole with the soil wheel at the base of the seedling with great care. At the time of planting, just as much of the seedling should be kept under the ground in the seedbed. Then the gaps around the seedlings should be filled well with fertile soil at the top and then at the bottom. The surrounding soil should be well compacted so that there is no gap.
