Shaw (scientific name: Streblus asper) is a small evergreen tree. The height of this densely branched tree is 4-10 m. The bark of the stem is uneven. The leaves are ovate, crusty and dark green. The leaves are 2.5 to 6 cm. Long and 2 to 3.5 cm wide and slightly elliptical. Its edges are randomly grooved. The flower dioceses of this tree are scattered or in clusters. The fruits are yellow and berry type. It is found in Bangladesh, Malaysia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Syria and India.

Even in modern times, this tree is widely used in the manufacture of various oral health medicines. The plant is also widely used in the manufacture of dark-brown ayurvedic toothpaste, which is very popular in Syria.

Modern research has shown the effectiveness of some anti-bacterial ingredients obtained from this plant on a number of microorganisms. In particular, some of the ingredients found in the leaves of this tree have been shown to be effective in counteracting the effects of Streptococcus bacteria. As a result, there is a great possibility of using this plant in the preparation of medicines for the treatment of various infections of the mouth and nose and sore throat. Studies have also shown that the root of this plant is an extremely valuable source of cardiac glycosides. As a result, it has the potential to be useful in the manufacture of various types of heart medicine. In the case of cancer prevention, two types of cytotoxic cardiac glycosides - strabloxide and mansonin - have been isolated from the methanol and dichloromethane accumulated in the bark of this plant, which have significant anti-cancer efficacy.
