A. Artificial Intelligence and Networking
BombSquad is like the game Mini Militia which can be a fun multiplayer games. It uses AI by controlling the bots or characters. In this game, you can blow up your friends in mini-games ranging from capture-the-flag to hockey. By the use of controller, you can punch something, blowing something up, and throwing anything like bombs or even your opponent. BombSquad supports touch screens as well as a variety of controllers so all your friends can get in on the action. They have an interactive feature and graphics. The music and sounds is also captivating. Aside from these, you can also have power ups. AI randomly drops off boxes with special power ups like Med-Pack, Boxing-Gloves, Ice-Bombs, Energy-Shield, Sticky-Bombs and so on where you can get it and increase your likelihood to win the game. It also has three game modes - Single Player/Co-Op, Teams, and Free-for-All, where you can choose depending on your interest.
It also use networking where it features 8 players connected via internet, Google Play, Local Network or just manually join a party by IP address. You can also invite friends through online. The game can also be played on the same device if you have enough controllers. Since it can also be used as controllers using your phones.
B. Reaction
I remember installing BombSquad when my friend insists me to have one on my phone. He also insists my other classmates to install it. Then, he connected us to his hotspot which serve as the party where we are joining. When I open the app, the hype music of an orchestra welcomes me. The sounds really gives me a boost feeling and at that moment, I think I will like this game. I also like the graphics where I am in control of the surroundings like when I moved my phone to the right, the background will also move to the right. The animation when I clicked the buttons also gives me a thrilled feeling of wanting the game to start. When we are all set and in the same party, I squealed when I saw the characters. They are so tiny and cute and the way they moved when I controlled them is so fun. We all shared laughter when we were playing. The controls are hard at first especially running since most of the time, the characters fall off at the cliff. The music again, is really good and gave us the excitement as we play. We were squealing and making so much noise when we were attacking each other. It is really funny how you can lift your opponent and thrown him at the cliff. There are also special power ups like boxing gloves, energy shield, and the like. My favorite is the boxing gloves since in just a few smack, my opponent will be defeated and it's funny to see the bots punching with their tiny hands and knock out their opponents in cute way. We also laughed out when we are throwing an endless stream of bombs and suddenly, we made our bots suicidal. The app also has several maps or games like capturing the flag, racing, sports, death match, etc. I think there 25 games and the others are locked since you have to buy the BombSquad Pro. There are also different rounds, so I can regain from my losses. When the players are increasing, we switched in making a team instead of competing against each other. Overall, I really have fun when I am playing this with my friends.
C. Critique
BombSquad is a recommended game for those people who like to play with their friends and are socially interactive. It is an awesome game that combines fighting and strategy. The sounds and music is also a good component that gives an excitement to every players. It is one of the games where it is hard to unmute because the sounds are really addicting. The graphics is also engaging. The bots or characters are also pleasing since they are really tiny and make small movements as well as little noises that is a sound to every ears. There are many game modes which is perfect for matches and team players. Other features are unlock since you have to pay for the Pro version of BombSquad. I noticed that there are few game modes in single or co-op mode, and there are about 25 modes in team player and multiplayer modes. If only developers could add more free levels and if the modes available in the multiplayer modes is also available for single player/co-op mode, it would really be good. They also have the remote feature where you can connect your phone and make it a gamepad and play on android or smart television. It is also a game where you will not feel down when losing due to the help of the fun graphics and super funny game play. You can also chat with the players while playing. If you like to change the appearance, name and settings of your bot, you can easily change it it their settings. It would be hard to control the bots for the first time but you can adjust the controller to your comfortable state. Nevertheless, this game is much like Mini Militia and is fun to play.
D. Innovation
For BombSquad, it would be good if there are more game modes available in Single Player / Co-Op modes. They could also increase the number of players intead of limiting it to only eight players. It would also be exciting if they can separate the pc players from the android players since it is kind of preferential. The android players can be outplayed since the pc gamers are using mouse and keyboard so it is much easier to control the bots. Or they can improve the controller in android app to match it with the pc game. It would also be fun if aside from chat while playing, there will be a voice chat where you can hear your friends and have fun together. This is really a plus especially to those players who are far away to each other. The game is really nice but there is no major update like new skins, new game modes or new features. It is always just fixing the bugs that is why the old players are getting bored. It would really be exciting if they will update it and add more to avoid getting the app in dead state.
