In a world where the technology reigns, there's a strong connection between Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) and mental health.
Internet Addiction Disorder is a non chemical dependence that can be passive (television) or active (social media or video games).
Globally there are almost 3.8 billions people that are using social media. We know that this statistic is a mathematical calculation and it has peaks and minimums.People that are in the peak of the statistic, can develop disorders that are part of IAD.
Cybersex, is everything concerning the sexual sphere conveyed on the internet. From magazines to videos, from movies to video chat etc. These outlets makes an addicted person to explore their addiction more easily. One person from five, which was diagnosticated with IAD, has a dependency of Cybersex.
MUD or Multi User Dimension, is the possibility to create a fake character which you can identify with. The problem is when you develop an addiction that blinds you from the real world. It is very toxic for the mental health since the real world experiences aren't as sparky as the fake reality you created.
Dependency of informations, is the exhausting research of news and informations. This phenomenon happens through "web surfing" , basically you just hop from a news source to another without even controlling the news. The psychologist, Kimberly Young, sustains that these persons wants to access the informations as fast as they can, most of the time not realizing that they fell in a trap called excessive informations.
We are a very social species, we pay close attention to what our neighbors are doing or our friends, we homologate ourselves. If suddenly at a party we see everyone running, we start running too. If a preacher can make believe a crowd that the Sun is actually a planet, we start to think that maybe we are the crazy ones.
This is how the phenomenon called FOMO was born, "Fear of Missing Out",this "Ansia Social" aliments the disorders already present in some of us.
Theodore Roosevelt once said: "Comparison is the thief of joy".
Our need to be social was always present, we have to communicate, we have to share and talk. In the year 1935, the Notificator was invented. It was the first twitter. People just let messages on this machine and fixed appointments. Now, social media is the platform to do that. The problem is when these platforms ask too much from you, asks you location, data, ID, a picture of you and so on.
These devices and platforms was created because of our need to communicate, they weren't created by aliens or some evil entity, but by us. Their elimination is not in our plan because they are here to stay and evolve, just like us. We need to learn to control them and not let them control us, using them consciously has to be one of our priority.
