Abortion

Each child is sent into the world by God with a unique message to deliver, a new song to sing, and personal act of love to bestow, thus life must be respected.

Abortion, in simple terms is an act of bringing pregnancy to an end. It has been arguable topic for decades, but in my own perspective the idea of aborting an unborn fetus is decidedly unpleasant, and I do believe that there is no such thing as an “unwanted child; there are only “unwilling parents.” We can’t deny the fact that as our time advances, our knowledge and technology also advance, such as the researchers formulates pill to abort, tools, and etc. wherein this takes place the ways on aborting child – spontaneous abortion, surgical abortion, and medical abortion. Behind those ways are the reasons of why woman chose that decision, but does it really right to abort based on their reason behind? Should the law allow abortion for rape or incest? at the end of the day everyone has the right to live, - life should be respected.

  • Looking abortion from moral and philosophical standpoint.

Abortion on a moral standpoint;

As a catholic, abortion is immoral and inhumane act; It was clear in the 5th commandment of God, “Thou shall not kill.” However, there are countries who legalized abortion, but just because something happens to be legal it doesn’t make it moral, ethical or right.

A child is a gift from God, - and for those people who commit abortion because “they weren’t ready (such as they only committed premarital sex) and says, “it’s just an accident” is a lame excuse because you entered that situation yet you can’t handle it. Thus, we should knowledgeable enough with our actions as it shapes our life and future. In that situation abortion shouldn’t be the last resort, it should be acceptance – to accept that a child is a gift, as God will have a better plan for the mother and child.

On the other hand, Isn’t abortion acceptable in the case of rape or incest? This decision might be hard, but the baby has nothing to do with the rape incident. It is indeed a strange logic that would have us kill an innocent unborn baby for the crime of his father.

Abortion on a philosophical standpoint;

Looking things philosophically means to look on both sides. One side of abortion is from the moral stand point wherein abortion is an immoral and inhumane act. On the other hand, abortion is a woman’s right to self-determination. Abortion is a choice, and behind those choice is the reason of an individual. The decision to have an abortion is motivated by multiple, diverse and interrelated reasons such as financial constraints and lack of partner support, etc.

Some woman chooses to abort rather than to adopt because they think that was the best for them, and that what makes them who they really are. It is their right to rule their body to whatever choice they make in life.

Reflection

In my own perspective, the greatest gift of God is the gift of life, and the greatest sin of humans would be to return that gift, ungratefully and unopened. I do value my moral aspect, the willingness to do the right thing no matter what happen because for me that’s what makes me who I am. In the near future, I don’t see myself committing abortion, as it was against my moral principle and if ever God will give me child in the future, I would like to give the best – planned and prepared. However, with the current situation of our world, I would not like to have a child, rather I want to adopt a child. There are many children abandoned by their parents, and I wanted to make them feel wanted and loved in this world. Abortion has never been about choice, but its about escaping the consequences of your choices by taking away the choices of the most innocent among us. Thus, we should always be mindful with our action, and we should not let our emotions and curiosity takes place in us.
