Today's Politics: Update on the Registration of Candidates for Election Contestants
Today, August 1, 2022, the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia opens registration for political parties that are candidates for the 2024 general election. On this first day, 9 political parties registered with the General Election Commission.
The regulation governing the registration of candidates for election participants is Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning the Implementation of General Elections. The Election Law stipulates that the registration of candidates for election contestants begins 18 months before the election day.
To regulate the stages of how political parties register as election participants. The General Election Commission regulates in two regulations. First, the General Election Commission Regulation Number 3 of 2022 concerning the Stages of the 2024 Simultaneous Election. The second legal basis is the General Election Commission Regulation Number 4 of 2022 concerning the technicalities of political parties registering as candidates for election participants, procedures for verifying the completeness of political party administration and determination election participants.
Political parties that register with the General Election Commission to participate in the election on the first day are:
Prosperous Justice Party
Initially, this party used the name of the justice party and eventually changed the name of the party to the Prosperous Justice Party. The Prosperous Justice Party was formed and launched on April 20, 1988 on the basis of strength derived from the cadre of members. At this time, the map of the strength of the Prosperous Justice Party is seen in the number of seats in parliament, the Prosperous Justice Party has 55 seats out of 575 parliamentary seats.
With that power, the Prosperous Justice Party registered as a candidate for election contestants. The General Elections Commission examines the administration of the Prosperous Justice Party. The decision of the General Elections Commission stated that the files from the Prosperous Justice Party were declared complete. The problem is seen in the 'Political Party Information System' which is experiencing network problems. However, the General Elections Commission still received registration documents from the Prosperous Justice Party.
Another technical problem is that the Prosperous Justice Party waited a long time to receive a signature from the General Elections Commission leadership in the Official Report on the registration of the Prosperous Justice Party. Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle

Initially, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle came from the Indonesian Justice Party which was founded on January 10, 1973. Later, the Justice Party changed its name to the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle since February 15, 1999, which used the bull as the party logo.

Prosperous Fair People's Party
The Adil Makmur People's Party was formed on June 1, 2021 and is a new party in Indonesia. The General Elections Commission checks the registration documents, statement letters, and recap of the management of the membership of women's representatives. At this time, the Adil Makmur People's Party has not yet met the requirements for sub-district administration.
Indonesian Unity Party
The United Indonesia Party, known as the Perindo Party, was established on February 7, 2015. The Perindo Party does not yet have a seat in parliament. However, the Perindo Party has media power, because the founder and chairman of the Perindo Party is the owner of several television stations.
National Democratic Party
The National Democratic Party known as the NasDem Party was born on July 26, 2011 with a force that is quite respected in the Indonesian political space. The National Democratic Party has 59 seats in parliament plus 186 members of the regional parliament which has a very luxurious office. It can be said that the National Democratic Party is the party with the best office of all parties in Indonesia.
The National Democratic Party carries all the necessary administration to register as a candidate for the 2024 election. In general, the Democratic National Party does not have problems with the Political Party Information System.
Star Moon Party
The Crescent Star Party, which was founded on July 17, 1998, has no seats in parliament. In the previous election, the Crescent Star Party became an election participant after challenging the decision of the General Elections Commission. At this time, administrative files are generally declared complete.
Indonesian Sovereign State Party
The Indonesian Sovereign State Party has been established in the Indonesian political space since October 2020 and has never experienced election contestation. However, in the registration process, the Indonesian Sovereign State Party was declared incomplete in fulfilling the requirements for management at the regional/district/city level. There is still a process for how the Indonesian Sovereign State Party completes the document.
