The wolf (Canis lupus[a]), additionally called the grey wolf or grey wolf, is a large canine local to Eurasia and North America. More than thirty subspecies of Canis lupus had been recognized, and grey wolves, as colloquially understood, comprise non-home/feral subspecies. The wolf is the largest extant member of Canidae, men averaging forty kg (88 lb) and girls 37 kg (eighty two lb). Wolves measure one hundred and five–a hundred and sixty cm (41–sixty three in) in length and 80–85 cm (31–33 in) at shoulder height. The wolf is likewise distinguished from different Canis species via its less pointed ears and muzzle, as well as a shorter torso and an extended tail.
