History of first Clock

The first mechanical clocks, employing the verge escapement machanism with a foliot or balance wheel timekeeper ,were invented in Europe at around the start of the 14th century and became the standard timekeeping device untill the pendulum clock was invented in 1656.The Dutch Polymath and horologist Christian Hygens the inventer of first precisio n timekeeping devices (Pendulum clock and spiral-hairspring watch).From its invention in 1656 by Christian Hygens untill the 1930s ,the pendulum clock was the world most precise timekeeper,accounting for its widespread use.
