A story about Tamarind - A stray cat with a gangster face and a fragile heart.
Hey guys, how y’all been doing?
This evening (Eastern EU time), I am writing to tell you the story about my beautiful boy named “Tamarind”, the three year old cat I rescued from a shelter in Klaipeda - the port city of Lithuania.
Tamarind was called “Gremis”, the name given by the nice shelter manager. Super sadly the lady died in a car accident a month ago. Tamarind and we prayed for her peaceful rest when we heard the news. 😭
Tamarind was a stray cat (Serberian - Blue Maincoone breed mix) living from barn to barn in a small village near Klaipeda city since when no body knows. When he was about a year old, the city government activated the TNR program (Trap - Neutralise - Release) and he was caught to be sterilized. Poor Tamarind, I hope he did meet some girl friends before he got fixed 😝.
In stead of being released after neutralised, he got sick and the shelter decided to keep him. For 2.5 years and no one wanted to adopt him. He just scared and hated human so so bad. So, he was always ready to attack any humans near him. The shelter manager told me he got a lot of wounds and his ear got damaged when they brought him in.
Maybe he fought with other animals to survive or got attacked by the villagers. That’s why he hated humans and acted very defensive.😥
In the shelter, his only favourite human was the manager and his only friend was a blind old dog (I named the dog “Mr. one eye”). Tamarind was very fond of Mr. One Eye and always protected him every time he was put out of his cage.
First time I met Tamarind and tried to hug him. He scared and attacked me. His very sharp claws gave me two small scratches near my right eye 😑. However, he did not scare me and even more inspired me to become his better human.
When I brought him home and my partner renamed him "Tamarind" (an Asian plant name). Yep, my partner is vegan eater and she named all our pets with plant-based names 🤣🤣.
He took nearly two weeks to make friend with my girl Puska - a beautiful tri-color female cat (Norwegian Forest breed mix). Now they are best friends as well as naughty siblings
His skin was in bad condition and his digestive system was not good either. We took him to the local vet to continue the treatment for him and now his conditions are improving better.
Tamarind was a very smart and polite boy. He now weighs 6.60 kgs. He is now healthier and more friendly to any humans he met because he knows he is loved so much by us and his sisters (Puska and Chia)
I hope all cat lovers here enjoy my Tamarind’s story - a wanderer with mobster face and fragile heart!
