Let's talk a little about hygiene in our intimate area, most of the time we do not pay attention to our southern area until we feel some discomfort or pain that indicates that something bad is happening, below I write some practices to keep your vagina clean and healthy:
* Always be gentle when grooming: Every time you bathe or shower, use a mild soap to lightly lather the outer lips and make sure to rinse them immediately with plenty of water, soap residue can cause irritation and inflammation.
* Never wash the inside of your vagina: This is not necessary, the fluids that you expel daily through the vaginal canal act as cleaners of germs and other substances. Using soap on the delicate skin of your inner lips and inside your vagina could cause inflammation and itching. Also, avoid douching; you run the risk of eliminating the bacterial flora that keeps microbes in check and reduces the chances of infection.
* Don't use bath products with additives: Chemicals in scented soaps, bath oils, and talcum powder are irritating. Other products to avoid are antibacterial soaps, because they tend to dry out the skin and irritate the genitals. Also, regular soap is just as effective at killing germs as any of the antibacterials.
* Use cotton underwear: Choose your clothes wisely, cotton is the most breathable fabric there is and is the most recommended to cover your vulva. Avoid wearing thongs if possible or reduce their use.
* Do not stay with sweaty clothes on: It is very tempting to keep your clothes on after exercising but it is not recommended, bacteria thrive in humid and dark environments, so if after exercising you can not shower and change clothes, at least clean your vulva and change your sweaty underwear.
* Do not use towels, tampons or menstrual cup for a long time: towels and tampons contain chemicals called phthalates, which disturb hormones, it is advisable to use cotton towels for 4-6 hours and change them. Use tampons for 4-6 hours and change them, don't sleep with them inside you. The menstrual cup is recommended to use only for 8 hours and do not sleep with it inside you.
* Eat well for your vaginal health: Fat and carbohydrates in excess do not do good to intimate health. You must add probiotics (good bacteria) to your diet to avoid fungal infections and keep the vaginal pH balanced. Fermented foods like kimchi and yogurt, kombucha, and olives are high in probiotics.
By applying any of these simple tips in your daily routine, you will improve your intimate health and keep your vaginal area hygienic and disease-free in a simple way.
