A Texas man have been charged by the department of justice (DoJ) accused of using government funds to relief COVID-19 to invest in Cryptocurrency.

In a brief statement released in June 14, by the department of justice (DOJ) allegedly charged Joshua Thomas Argires, of using a related COVID-19 fund to invest and trade in Cryptocurrency.

He defrauded COVID-19 program and used to invest in Cryptocurrency.

Argires, obtained fraudulently more than $1.1 million from a program to relief COVID-19 dubbed Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), he granted loans using false applications in the name of two companies, Texas Barbecue and Houston Landscaping. The Department officials claimed that Joshua used the both firms to fill applications claiming that the companies had employees with payroll expenses to cover, but that wasn't true!

Accordingly to Department of Justice none of the firms had those payments to fulfill and the applications filled was granted the funding, the loan from Texas Barbecue was used to invest in Cryptocurrency and another one was hold in a Bank account which was slowly depleted via ATM withdrawals.

COVID-19 relief funds have been used by individual purposes in detriment of the ones who real need it, hum shame!

The fraudulent scheme done by Joshua isn't the first one caused in crisis time, but is one that will for sure prosecuted by the U.S department of Justice.
