Eliminating Thorny Fences and Boosting Community Morale: A BCH Sponsored Earth Day Cleanup in Matola

Today is Earth Day and as such, I have planned some local activities in the community with a focus on cleanliness such as cutting and pruning trees as well as keeping the neighborhood clean in a clear allusion and celebration of the date. The commemoration was sponsored by the use of Bitcoin Cash to purchase consumable goods such as sodas and others to boost the morale of residents after work.

I have been conducting this type of activity not only on special occasions or days, but also regularly to keep the neighborhood clean, free of grass and weeds, which is a favorite spot for criminals to congregate in the dead of night and can cause various public problems.

One of the biggest problems with the concentration of walls, for example, made of thorny plants is the presence of wrongdoers hidden at night since public lighting and police patrols are almost nonexistent. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain the space free of poorly trimmed walls (of thorny plants).

In coordination with the residents, we are trying to eradicate this type of fencing as a way of reducing crime, but also the problems that the plant brings when it becomes adult. This plant grows a lot and becomes poisonous, so it was chosen as a fencing wall, but it has often caused problems for curious children who play too close to it without knowing its dangers, which can have serious consequences if they accidentally prick themselves with it.

It was with this focus that we programmed to remove all plants used as fencing in houses where residents do not take good care of them, and in those where residents requested their removal.

Certainly, for many, the thorny plant fence may be new, but where I live, it is still a common way of making fences around residences. And, believe it or not, I live in the heart of Matola in the Maputo Province, a completely urban region with a lot of youth as part of the community. Anyway, it is the heritage left by our parents who used this thorny plant as fencing.

But the community is growing, and the campaign to remove this plant is becoming regular, and I believe that by next year, few or none will have this type of fencing, which can be replaced by more conventional fencing methods and also increase the privacy and security of community residents.

Another activity is also scheduled, pending the date for the cleaning execution and depending on weather factors such as rain, which recently fell intermittently, causing a lot of grass to grow.

Next, I will leave some images taken from today's event, hoping that you have also conducted a similar activity in the communities where you reside:

Next week there is another event, this time the Bitcoin Cash Meetup here in Matola, led by Casa Bitcoin Cash Mozambique. I sincerely hope it will be a success and also the beginning of a conscious community about decentralized digital money.

I believe it is a concern for residents to learn more about Bitcoin Cash, as the increasing banking restrictions on customer accounts due to anti-terrorism policies and others will make young people open their eyes to learn how important Bitcoin Cash can be for personal finances.

Have a great Earth Day and stay in touch for the next Meetup, which will be the first one here in Matola.
