The tradition of the ancient rural Bengal and the relationship of the tall palm trees standing 'on one foot' seem to be tied in the same thread.

Towards the sky, rows and rows of palm trees have enhanced the beauty of rural Bengal since ancient times. And on the leaves of the palm tree, the artistic home of the babui bird is swaying in the wind and spreading deep fascination. Therefore, the pair of palm trees is a fair burden in preserving the heritage of ancient Bengal and creating decoration.

The palm tree is not just a decoration. In addition to this, he has devoted himself completely to various human activities.

The evergreen palm tree has always saved Bangladesh from various natural disasters and has also played a vital role in reducing the death rate due to lightning.

So the palm tree and its various parts have always met the various needs of life. For example, palm leaves are used to make house shades, hand fans, mats, mats, drawing pots, writing books, dolls etc.

Raft or boat, house poles are made of palm stems.

From time immemorial, the palm tree has been a delight for the food-loving Bengalis with its juice, fruits and seeds. Rhythm contains vitamins A,

B and C, zinc, potassium, iron and many minerals including calcium. Molasses, Patali, candy, tari etc.

are made from the juice collected from the palm tree. In Jyastha-Ashar, people used to call around to eat raw palm fruit shells.

There was a fierce competition to eat the shells. In the month of Sravan-Bhadra, whenever I went under the palm tree, my mind would be filled with the fragrance of ripe palm. Even with luck,

two or four ripe palms could be found. The sound of dhapas dhapas from the tree could be heard from a distance. At this time, every house was filled with the sweet smell of ripe palm.

The daughters-in-law of the house used to extract yellow juice by crushing ripe palm kernels.

After that, the juice was thickened with milk and Korano coconut and often it was eaten spontaneously or with chira-muri.

In the month of Sravan, there would be a rush to make palm cake. Not just palm fried cakes, palm bread, palm bara and talsatbasaha how many other kinds of cakes! In hospitality those cakes were incomparable in taste and smell.

So the value of palm juice, shells and cakes is still original and unadulterated all over Bangladesh.

Palm palms grow up to 60-70 feet tall and have a lifespan of about 100-150 years. Palm tree is one of the most environmentally friendly, popular and traditional tree in different countries of South and South-East Asia including Bangladesh.

At one time most of the houses, roads and fields in rural Bengal were rich in palm trees. So the role of the palm tree was important in recognizing any house or place from a distance. But in the course of time, the traditional palm tree is lost today.

Today, there is no such thing as a beautiful scene of thousands of babui birds making their nests in the leaves of palm trees. So now we have to be satisfied by imagining the picture of the picture of the palm tree that can be seen from a distance. It can be seen that the number of deaths due to lightning in Bangladesh has increased more than before.

One of the reasons for this is the declining number of palm trees. Therefore, it is very important to plant and protect palm saplings to get other benefits including balance of the environment
