Saidur Rahman, a teacher at Bindubasini Government Girls' School in Tangail, was beaten up and handed over to the police
by the students and parents of the school on charges of sexual harassment. Last month, the RAB arrested a madrasa teacher for abducting its own student from the Hatirjheel area of the capital. Sometimes they kick the coworker, sometimes they sexually harass the student, and sometimes they distort the
results. When we think of a teacher, we are reminded of a man who is a man of noble, wise, and disciplined. There are many differences between today's teachers and that ideal teacher of our imagination. Today, on October 5, World Teachers' Day, if we think about our teachers, instead of the joy of celebration, we will be filled with despair.
All the teachers with extraordinary qualifications used to teach in the university. Let's talk about Dhaka University, the highest educational institution in the country. Teachers like Anisuzzaman, Ahmed Sharif, Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Fazlul Alam Chowdhury,
Shamsul Haque have taught in Dhaka University. They were an institution in themselves. They were not just teachers, they were full-fledged guardians. The students felt blessed to be able to approach these teachers and learn from them. But today the students do not have that respect of teachers. We also have to read the news on the pages of newspapers that students have laid hands on teachers. This degradation of the dignity of teachers is due to their deeds. Being submissive to party politics, dropping out of public university classes
and going to private universities all day for money - these are the reasons why the status of teachers in the highest schools is tarnished today. But there is another side to the coin. In the present capitalist society, the status of teachers' salaries and allowances is also the reason for their low status in the society. This is especially true of primary school teachers.
Since in a financially rich society, the one who has the money, the one who has the respect, has to ensure the respect of all the teachers including the primary level teachers by arranging a standard salary scale.
At the same time, the teachers have to think that they are disrespected due to any deterioration of morality. After overcoming all the crises in the education system, the teachers will soon regain their lost position in the society
