What are the effect of sleep deprivation

A lot of us have experience that one groggy feeling after not sleeping with the recommended sleep hours that the body need, sleep deprivation in short, but what really are the effects of it to us?

Sleep deprivation is where one person doesn't get any sleep that is recommended for them. Recommended sleep for Younger Adults ranging from 18-25 is 7-9 hours which is also the same sleeping hours for Adults ranging from 26-64. Meanwhile Older Adults, 65+ needs at least 7-8 hours of sleep.

Sleep deprivation isn't very lethal if it is just for a while. But if it was prolonged or long-term, then you might want to consult a specialist which have experience in dealing with prolonged sleep deprivation.

Long-term sleep deprivation are very risky since it increases the chance of someone to get a serious health problems, some examples are hypertension, stroke, and even heart attack.

Sleep deprivation are generally seen in older adults but with the current state of things now, even some younger adults experience sleep deprivation.

It is common with people who have Depression, Chronic Pain Syndrome, Cancer, Stroke, Alzheimer, or even stress. It isn't lethal at start but it will be as time passes by. It will become sever.

The usual early symptoms are drowsiness, impaired memory, inability to concentrate and reduced physical strength. While if it was prolonged, it could increase the risk of depression, mental illness, stroke, heart-disease, and even asthma.

There are some treatments for this such as sleeping pills, avoiding any drinks that can reduce drowsiness like caffeine, and sleeping in the dark with the right temperature.

Although the pills could helps you to sleep, taking more than what is prescribed or even taking one without doctor's permission could lead to dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and nausea. It could also make your sleeping problems more worse.

Sleep is very important as it helps that brain to make new pathways which is needed to learn and remember new things. If one doesn't get adequate sleep needed, it could make the brain exhausted and can't function well. They wouldn't be able to concentrate and increase the chances of having delayed responses.

Irregular sleep also harms the emotional and mental abilities. Badly affecting the decision making as well as creative skill and if it became long-termed, it could pose threat to the psychological of a person.

Conclusion: Sleeping deprivation could pose a threat to the physical and mental health of a person. It is very deadly and should not be ignored.

If you have any friends or family with this problem, help them. Losing someone dearly to you isn't a good thing.
