Information is transformation

In simple terms, information is transformation. It enables us to work smarter and faster. It moves us from being reactive to proactive, from exploration to realization, from planning to execution. The reason why Amazon has grown from $2 billion to $100 billion a few years later is because it offers the most complete selection of goods available on Earth and serves customers faster than anyone else.

Information is transformation. It is the conversion of data into knowledge and wisdom. It represents the mastering of external realities. Its primary bearer is the individual. Information can be understood as the raw materials of insight, the internal counterpart of innovation. As such, it assumes a key role in the context of major transformations currently underway worldwide, including those in energy, economics, society and industry.

In order to manage this change, we need to master information. The way to do that is to make information a strategic resource - to turn it into a source of competitive advantage and a driver of sustainable growth. To make this possible, we must develop distinctive strengths in the fields of knowledge management and business analytics. By harvesting and making sense of existing information resources, Germany will achieve a competitive edge over countries whose strength lies in more traditional areas of enterprise.
