It's been a hot minute! Back on my computer again for the first time since like I had COVID. I've been doing well, just been busy with other things - mainly hyperfocusing on computer programming. Banged out a pretty rad VBA ticket scraper and a powershell program to scrape Active Directory. Now it's time to get back to the old routine I think. Oh - how about an album while I'm here: Ministry's With Sympathy (1983). A perfect gothy blend of New Wave and Synthpop! Threw together a mini jam session on my lunch break at work (used headphones, of course). The only thing that sucks is the time it takes to pack it all up; but it does fit conveniently in my backpack. Did a jam stream on Twitch the other night, too. I'll have to do more of them. In other news, my partner's come down with a REALLY bad cold/COVID. Not sure which... she tested negative, but I'm not even sure how accurate the tests are anymore. Just patiently awaiting my time to get sick now. Thanks to work policy, I'll have to go to the office until I get sick...

Sitting back watching North America crumble under christo-fascist ideals. The Supreme Court of the United States ruled the other day that you now have to wait for your child to enter public school before they can be aborted. Tragic. While the news is centric to the USA right now, here in Canada we have a lot of people with the same regressive ideals trying to push the same stuff.

Had a surprised visit from my brother-in-law yesterday which was cool - meant an almost night-long tabletop game session, including a chance to finally break into a few games we haven't played yet. Hoping to see him again soon as I have many more unplayed games left to go lol

UPS runs an absolute scam when it comes to international shipping... I bought this item off a Twitch auction, and all-in I ended up spending more on shipping + fees than I did the game itself. It was the surprise $33 CAD border fee that really set me off, though. The tax itself was only $6 and change, but UPS uses its own broker. The only way for me to pay only the $6 would have been to contact UPS, get the receipt, then drive an hour or so to the closest airport, go to the customs office there, pay the bill, then provide UPS a copy of the receipt back. Succinctly, they charge as much as they know they can get away with, and are betting that a majority of people don't live near an airport and will thus be forced to pay what might as well be an extortion fee. I will absolutely be going out of my way in the future to avoid UPS at all costs. ANNNNYway... what I got was a really good condition copy of Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition for the PC Engine. So that's pretty cool. It's still got the manual, gift offer, and registration card. Only downside is that I can't read Japanese lol

I'm still alive lol. Bought Volca Sample the other day and I've been banging around on it. I really need to get an wall adapter for these things. 6 AA batteries x 3 devices, and they only last about 10 hours 😬 I also need a mixer so I can actually use them all at the same time.

Four fucking years my province has been under attack from the provincial conservative party. - Cuts to healthcare and education, as well as early hints toward gutting and privatizing healthcare in the province - Removal of Cap & Trade - a program that taxed carbon and used that money to fund subsidies toward electric vehicles and home renovations that focused on renewable energy - Money wasted on new license plates that had to be canceled after being manufactured because they weren't visible after dark - Money wasted on R&D for proximity bracelets during peak COVID lockdowns that never came to fruition - Money wasted on a new slogan, and thus new signage and letterheads - Money wasted on a new logo, and thus new signage and letterheads - Proposed highways that pretty much nobody wanted - Wishy-washy attitude during the peak lockdown times - Complete disregard toward the idiot convoy, leaving the Federal government to clean up his mess And what does my fucking province do? Gives them a MASSIVE majority win. We deserve 100% of the shit we're about to be in for.

Funny to see people simultaneously shit on NFTs while getting irate about somebody trying to ruin the Mona Lisa... There are so many high-resolution pictures of that thing that I could just save and print and hang... So tired yesterday I made it to bed before midnight lmao. I was practically a walking zombie by the end. I was a bit worried that I might have been coming down with COVID beccause I've been sneezing a bit lately, and I've been dead tired the last few days... took a test this morning and it was all clear, though. Maybe it's just all those nights of getting 3-4 hours of sleep finally catching up LOL

Nerding update... PS2 was still a bust. I caved and ordered a pre-made PS2 memory card with Freemcboot installed. I'm hoping this will allow it to see the hard drive properly and boot games from there? That card should arrive Friday. Today I'm just waiting for my SD card to come so this idiot will stop shaming me lol. Post coming about it later.

Been working on trying to soft mod my PS2... so far it's been a non-stop supply of "everything that can go wrong will go wrong" lol I've been playing .Hack GU on PC and, tbh, it's horrible. I was expecting it to be like the original .Hack games on the PS2, but so far it's been a colossal letdown. It kinda feels like they stretched the game out, but didn't fill in the gaps... so there's a whole lot of nothing. The PS2 version I remember had a much better atmosphere, and more incentive to explore rather than just blast through the story segments. So anyway, I got my PS2 hooked up to my streaming rig and found the game... only, the disc was missing. NBD, I'll just finally get around to modding the PS2. Softmod seems dead simple to do. I have everything I need. So, step 1 - get a blank PS2 memory card. I've got a few so I should be able to move the data around to clear it off... except, the system isn't reading it. So, I opened it up and give the pins a good ISO scrub. System is reading it fine now. Step 2: Plug a hard drive into the network adapter - again, nbd I have 3 IDE style hard drives.. so I back up the data from one, and go to install it... but the power and pins aren't lined up in a way that they'll fit the adapter. Who knew this wasn't a standardized thing? lmao Back to the drawing board... I'd actually planned on doing this earlier and bought a SATA-style adapter for the PS2. I have some spare SATA drives kicking around too... so I go to back THAT data up, and this is where things are for now... it was gonna take a few hours to do so I let it process overnight. I'll get back into it tomorrow. Hopefully the system can read the drive, but we'll see. This is exactly why I work in IT though. I have a ton of experience in fixing shit with technology because it's almost never as quick and easy as it should be when it comes to things I try to do lol
