We brush our teeth daily yet we ignore to refresh our mind regularly.

For hundreds of thousands of years, humans did not brush our teeth.

We developed the habit out of necessity.

It’s probably time for another wellness habit to come into the picture — mindfulness practice

Our work-life and personal relationships often drowned us with endless stress stimuli.

In order to get through a hectic day, we run on autopilot, reacting rather than responding to whatever life throws at us.

Sounds familiar?

Life happens, and will always be. Practicing mindfulness helps us to have a better awareness state to respond productively.

Mindfulness is a tool.

A tool to help us appreciate the present moment, to stop us dwelling on the past, or mentally racing ahead to the future.

Our mind is primarily designed for survival. Evolution has equipped us with a mental alarm system that’s always on the lookouts for threats. Our ancestors felt it was safer to focus on critical inner voice than hoping for the best in a potentially dangerous situation.

Fast forward to the modern world, life is always uncertain, volatile, and highly complex. Our mental faculties are constantly overwhelmed with information, distractions, and threats.

Naturally, our well-being is negatively affected.

So, what are some examples of mindfulness practices?

Here’s one — mindful breathing. You can do this anytime and anywhere. If you feel your mind wandering, or when daily life throws a curveball at you, try this to calm yourself down.

Pay attention to the sensation in your nose as you draw in air, to the feeling in your chest as it rises with your breath, and then falls again.

Try it and let me know what you feel.
