Democracy, Its Merits and Demerits.

Lets Start it.

Democracy is a popular and most acceptable way of ruling in the modern world. Government by the consent of public is termed as Democracy. To quote Abraham Lincoln it can be commonly described as

"Government of people, by the people, and for the people".

Simply, as a matter of right and responsibilities, any scheme of government in which people are allowed to take part for the betterment of their country and their families. There are two types of democracy one is direct and other is indirect. In these days indirect democracy is common and in vogue in many countries. It is also named as representative democracy or governance through representatives candidates. Like all other systems it also has some its advantages, benefits and some drawbacks.

Merits.

Democracy has many Merits, first it stands for the betterment of a street man, common people, secondly it gives equal rights to all the citizens of a country. Every citizen is equal and has equal rights according to the law. Third it allows the people if government doesn't delivered them then they are free to change it through voting. As it reduces the danger of revolt so it is a system which gives birth to a stable government and stable state. Fifth and last but not the least, education of man is the top priority in the democracy. It gives the people a sense of responsibility and their self help.

Drawbacks

Democracy isn't a perfect system, it also has some flaws in it. First one is that, it gives birth to the party politics which destroys the freedom of a man, liberty and individuality of people. Secondly it is very expensive type of government in the world. In some countries moral values are ignored although having democracy. Every thing is fair for winning the election. The most dangerous aspect of democracy is bribery and corruption are considered common things in democracy. In most of cases the in developing countries the elected candidates are usually ignorant of their responsibilities.

Islamic point of view.

Islamic concept of Democracy is different from the modern concept of democracy. First in Islam, the main authority lies in God, and not in the people, they are just servants. Secondly, the government is there not for people to please them, rather it is for the implementation of orders of God. Third, there is no party politics in Islamic concept of democracy. Fourth, quality and quantity is maintained in the election or selection of representatives.

Conclusion

Modern democracy can be improved by merging some Islamic concepts given by Islam, and then it can bring real peace and justice in the world. It is then that we may call it the best form and best way of Government.
