If you are using one of the common social instant messaging apps I strong urge you to switch to something with more security. When FB bought WhatsApp they changed the TOS to allow them to collect the data contained in your conversations, yet WhatsApp remains everyone's idea of a private messenger. Think of replacing it with something like Wire, Wickr or Threema (My personal preference is Wire because it is easy to use & the app is still free). Also if nothing else install Signal to add encryption to your txt message with other Signal users. With the continued overreach of corporate & government entities to collect your data it is more important than ever to attempt to protect yourself & your contacts. The following message came from Threema this morning - "Legal Study on the Corporate Use of Messaging Services (German) Instant messaging has become an integral part of everyday business communication. However, as far as the legal grounds for the corporate use of chat apps are concerned, the situation in the EU is tricky. To shed light on the matter, we commissioned the FZI Research Center for Information Technology in Karlsruhe, Germany, to conduct a study. The result is a detailed legal analysis as well as a practical guide that helps companies to choose the right messaging service. Please note that both documents are written in German. The experts confirm: “As far as the corporate context in the European Union is concerned, various instant messengers, especially ones developed for personal use, hardly, if at all, meet the relevant legal requirements for data protection or for the protection of trade secrets.” Visit our blog to learn more and download the documents: https://three.ma/legalstudy "
