To my fellow drawing artists, when you have an idea for something to draw do you just sit down & draw it from memory based of things you have seen before OR do you research looking at pictures similar to what you want to draw, maybe keep a photo loaded up on your phone to reference say you were drawing a lizard leg & wanted to get the joints right, # of digits, scale patterning etc....fo me it always helps to have a reference that I can look at, & mutate to fit my image. But please what do you do?
